You could sign Favors with cap space, which you could argue that he’d rebuff the offer after being shown he’s not a priority, but then you could also say that no other team is offering Favors their cap space.

I still fail to see many teams willing to give Favors more than the MLE on a long term deal. He might get one of those crazy KCP or Redick one year overpay deals, but nothing that's much more than the MLE over the long term.

If we waive him and try to sign him for a 3 year guaranteed deal making more than the MLE, I think he stays.

I was talking do overs. Our cap situation likely doesn’t change with that 5 mil cuz we are left with exceptions either way. It might cost us a pick to facilitate a sign and trade since they likely match anything and likely don’t make him unrestricted.

Russell isn’t as good as Conley. I really don’t think it’s close. I’d gladly give up the pick (that has like a 15-20% chance at a rotation player) for the better player with a contract that carries less risk.

If we bring in Conley, we only have the BAE to spend. That is about $4 million.

If we pay Russell max, we have $5 million to spend AND the BAE. So outside of keeping our 2020 1st rounder, we get to add another $4 million type player that we wouldn't get to add if we added Conley.

Oh, so we lose more than just a 1st rounder and a ton of space for Conley. Not only do we get left with peanuts to spend, but we might have to replace Crowder too. Awesome.

We didn't make the 2nd round this year. We got swept in the 2nd round two years ago and we won one game last summer. My assessment is that Conley makes us better enough to win a game or two more in the 2nd round.

We aren't better than Houston by adding Conley for Rubio AND Favors (and maybe Crowder too). We aren't better than Portland. We aren't better than GS (unless KD AND Klay AND Cousins all leave). If the Lakers get AD, they are better.

The Conley scenario had a ton of potential at the deadline. It made sense. We would be debating what to do with the MLE while also keeping Crowder AND Favors. But, we didn't make that deal. We all should move on.

Conley is eons better than Russell. You'd have to be a complete moron not to recognize that.

Russell is barely even good right now. He had an outlier season in terms of mid-range shooting. You have to really hope he takes some big 5th year leap and makes fundamental changes to his play-style.

I think LA is going to get AD by trading Ball, Ingram, #4 and other assets. They will have the money to make some improvements, but not another max space. I just don't see LA spending more than $12 million on a one year deal for Favors. I could be wrong and have been before. I just feel that LA will bring back a bunch of vets like Rondo and KCP on less than $10 deals. Paying Favors $10+ eats away almost half of the money they have left.
