What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Forgot to add that Mirotic has missed quite a few games this season and last, so is not much better than Love in that regard.

This year is the only year he's had injuries and it wasn't a knee or foot... it was an ankle and he broke his thumb... so contact type injuries. Last year he missed games because Bobby Portis broke his face in a fight... He is not nearly as injury prone and had been above average in games played prior to this year. He will also make a lot less than Love does over the next 4 years.

I've said DL is a top 3 GM and held that through our bad stretches the past couple years. I didn't really agree with fully running it back last year. If we ran it back this year, I'd lose all confidence in DL.

Kind of where I am... last year I thought running it back was in part for trade purposes... and we didn't make a deal. Still thought we could have added a Tolliver, Bjelica, or shooter with the MLE.

I do think he tried to make a trade

Yes they did, but didn't get it done... either because the assets weren't attractive enough or they didn't push hard enough. So if that was the plan... it failed. I realize it takes two to deal.

I don't doubt that. But I also think we tried to make threes against Houston. We shot like 21% but it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying. But 21% is 21%.
That number certainly wasn’t even close to the norm, no one on the team played really all that well for most of the series

My point is that there are a lot of times where effort counts, but that simply trying isn't sufficient. For instance, it's not enough for me to try to make my mortgage payment, or try to show up for work, or try to be a good parent, etc. Eventually you have to be assessed on more than effort and good intentions.

The jazz won 50 games. We just didn’t hit shots, and picked the worst time, not even Korver was hitting them at his normal rate or even close, but we weren’t playing well because we weren’t playing our system, and a big part of that in my opinion was due to the rush of injuries near the end of the season, players that filled the void were playing well then didn’t play in the playoffs. And it took a few games to shake the rust. It messed up timing and everything else off, then factor in the new Harden defense that took two whole games to figure out. The final three games were ultra competitive. Mitchell was playing pg then switched positions. Royce was starting, then back to the bench. Even Allen was playing well and giving the jazz another scorer, he was sent to the bench when Rubio came back.

Does the team need to be upgraded, yes, but only minor ones. We need to be more athletic, score more and shoot better around Gobert Mitchell and Ingles. There’s a reason the bucks had the best record in the league, because they are deep as hell, that’s how the jazz must build their team. Remember, Mitchell is only going to get better, Gobert gets better every year, we just need minor upgrades, Rubio, Exum, stretch 4.

Bottom line is there were issues going into the series that weren’t there before

I think Mirotic is about to get exposed in this series and the next if they can make it that far. On offense, he's going to end up looking like a bigger version of Korver or Ingles. He will be a massive liability on the switch like Korver and his shooting will be snuffed out by lock down defenders.

If he can't shine this playoffs next to Giannis and Middelton, I have no reason to believe he is the answer next to Donovan. We need somebody more dynamic.
