STAYWARD

Can somebody tell me why I shouldn't be worried the he has to sleep on it. I feel like if he wanted to be here the decision would be an easy one. Please tell me I'm overthinking this or missing something...

I don't really understand how anything we've heard today could make you less confident. If anything I'm more confident.

Hayward is staying. BTW Miami was never really in the picture, imo.

Almost no way to go full rebuild with the talent already under contract and the fact that a couple of other teams are well on their way toward that reality.

1 - those players didn't sign their contracts in blood. They can be traded.
2 - I count two or maybe three teams that aren't serious about competing in the Western Conference. It's a bloodbath. Might as well avoid it if you're not a real threat.
3 - You don't have to be the worst team in the world to get a high pick. Additionally, if the Jazz are serious about reinvesting profits, those might be the most profitable years since Stockton and Malone (the LT payment alone will be unlike anything ever seen before).

I know this isn't a cool, macho position.

Could it be a SMOKE SCREEN for something bigger?

I mean thank you for taking me literally but what am I missing? I apologize if you have explained earlier I have not read through all the way.

Along with DL's tinkering, there's been a plan to use this opportunity to its fullest. That means getting maximum exposure for Hayward, and, thereby, exposure for the jazz. Gotta let this play out for the full effect.

I mean there is one theory. I will admit this does seem a little more "overthought" than even my over thinking.

The worst team in the West may end up with no better than the #10 pick or so. We've seen some of the talent one can expect around that range (Burke, Lyles, whoever Lindsey would have picked last year). Plus, you for sure would need to trade Gobert. He's not going to tolerate losing. He'd bolt in a heartbeat once his contract expired - or demand a trade. If you rebuild, trade everyone because yiu can't skip steps. Otherwise you're just a bad team treading water like the Knicks, Kings, Suns, etc.

Jazz are in the West. Just not signing anyone to replace Hayward they could drop to 11th in the conference just with all the other teams that will compete. Sac, Phoenix and LAL the 3 lowest. The rest all have legitimate chance to make the playoffs. Trade Favors and JJ and get a young PF in their place.

I don't see the Jazz doing this, but it is possible.

There will be 7 teams from each conference not make the playoffs leaving the worst in the West with 8th pick or better. You have to remember that the teams in the West also have to play most of the other WC teams 3-4 times, making for a lot fewer easy games than in the East.

Think of it like buying a car, house, or any other major purchase. The smart thing to do, even if there's something you love, is to sleep on it.

Yes it would've been awesome to make an emotional decision to stay today, and I do think waiting does hurt our chances a bit, but he's just being smart. Not diva-ish at all
