Bin Laden is dead

Funny, it took Obama 2 1/2 years to do something that Bush couldn't do in 2 terms.

As an admitted liberal, I want to be the first to say that is a wholly invalid perspective. I sincerely doubt that Obama had a personal role in developing the intelligence lead that led to Osama's death. This very likely would have happened at about this period of time even if McCain had been elected.

Don't overreach like that. It's dishonest.

A serious (and destined to be unpopular) point: Isn't this video of people celebrating in front of the White House essentially destined to be "Bulletin Board material" at the equivalent of the next Al Qaeda staff meeting?

I say we give those radical Arabs a taste of their own medicine. I say we riot down our streets changing "death to Osama! Great Satan of the world!" Burn Osama bin Laden flags... Al Queda flags... Saudi Arabia flags... OR lakers flags, just anykind of flags. While wearing snow hats over our heads (cutting out 2 holes for our eyes) while flashing our machine guns.

The AP is reporting that the US is already telling embassies to prepare for reprisals. If you're trying to amp up your people to go out and do something in the short term I don't think it's unlikely at all that you show them those videos and tell them that the US doesn't fear you anymore.

They were preparing for possible reprisal long before any Americans were videoed celebrating. I seriously doubt Americans celebrating would tip the scales to whether the Al-Qaeda network retaliates or not.

And as an admitted conservative I don't care that this comes under Obama's watch. It needed to be done and whoever did it, kudos!

I'm not arguing that it will create retaliation that was not already there. It will draw in and recruit those that looked at bin Laden as a great man to help with the cause.

Probably. I don't care though. This country has needed something to celebrate for quite a while.

Huh?

Why would this create a surge in their recruiting?

I think quite the opposite.

Their "kobe" their "leader" their "savior" was just taken out.

The untouchable. Their divine like presence was just brought down to mortal levels and disposed of.

For 20 years he eluded justice. His mission seemed like it really was divine, since who else could escape justice for so long? Now, he's joined the ranks of Hitler, Hussein, and countless other victims of the US's iron fist.

No matter how secretive the organization is, there's going to always be a Judas.

No matter how rich and powerful you are, the United States of America will find you and kill you.

I think the opposite is going to happen. They're going to lose recruits. The face of their franchise is gone. who's next?

With so many other revolutions happening, I think youth will find themselves drawn more to disposing their own tyrannical leaders and transforming their own societies (which many are currently already doing in Iran and Libya) than leaving their homelands to fight some faceless radical organization that's having its *** handed to them by the USA.

A group of over 1000 gathered at ground zero, waving the US flag and singing the national anthem. That said, many of them are calling family and friends and telling them to come down. I wonder how many will be there come morning?

Your thinking like a rational person. Anyone that can be recruited to strap a bomb to their *** and blow up innocent people is not rational and the type of person that al Qeada targets. The video will reach these types.

With our crappy economy, media spouting hate, birthers, the Heat winning...

I think all of America needed something to cheer about.

I say we take a week off and celebrate. Lets make this our own carnival.

Obama needs a pat on the back for giving the nod for this operation, as well as doing this in Pakistans back yard. A very nice speech tonight as well. Job well done.

And your assumption that all terrorists/all Al Queda recruits are irrational people is completely false. He had insiders betraying him all the time. Wouldn't surprise me that it was one of his closest allies that screwed him over this time.

Some joined because yes, they were truly insane/really poed/believed in his jihad.

Others joined because they saw Osama as a type of Gandhi, Budda, or Christ.

Others joined for the money and rich promises.

I'm sorry, but irrational people can be found everywhere and anywhere. From some cave in the middle east to waco, tx.

But for the rest of mankind, including terrorists, this is a day that will change hurt recruiting.

Their icon is gone. Their savior, made dog meat by the USA. The unbreakable man, the man who couldn't be captured, the untouchable, taken out.

The mystique is gone.

This hurts terrorists around the world. Sorry folks! But recruiting is going to be much harder now, no matter how much we celebrate.

Ever seen IronMan II? "When they see God bleed. There will be sharks in the water..."

Their franchise player, was just taken out. Their organization will no doubt, continue. Just like Fascism is alive today without Hitler and Mussulini. But I doubt their recruiting will see a surge because of this. I doubt their organization will continue to be as strong as it was 10 years ago.

Much rep to the person who can post some pictures of Osama's compound in Pakistan. Im searching over google maps in that town in Pakistain right now.
