Lakers Trade Idea

Guys the lakers won't trade Ingram or Kuzma until they know that they are getting a big free agent and only if they have too... it is more likely you'd get future first rounders... 2021, 2023 plus Nance and Hart.

Worst case they know someone will do Ingram and Deng or Kuzma and Deng to get the space they need... unless Kuzma or Ingram fall off or get a catastrophic injury.

Btw I might consider the first rounder package... if we are tanking and aren't convinced FA is good for us next year.

Nobody is taking those future first rounders for taking on a contract like Deng's anymore. Cap space is more valuable than ever, Ingram or Kuzma would have to be in it.

Considering that it took Russell for them to unload Mozgov, I agree with this completely. Nobody is going to take that contract on for either draft picks or a marginal talent like Randle or Nance. It only makes sense to take back that albatross if there’s a premier asset like Ingram or Kuzma coming back also.

We know this - the Lakers want to make the playoffs big time this year, want to dump Deng and want to add 2 big fish next summer.

Favors and JoeJ
for
Deng and Ingram

That trade is perfect for both sides. Financially, its almost dead even. The Lakers get better for this season AND get to dump Deng AND can sign 2 max contracts in the 2018 summer. We get a very promising young player who fits next to Mitchell and Gobert long term.

I not an Ingram believer nor are many Laker fans

they also got a pick back in that deal... so don't forget that... the pick turned into Kuzma.

I also looked too far into the future... they could send the 2020 and 2022 picks... not a big game changer, but if those were unprotected with hart... I think a tanking team would be wise to get something.

Bulls maybe (their capspace is not going to produce wins for a while).

Russell's trade value had also tanked hard.

If you're taking those picks as the Jazz, you might as well trade Gobert (maybe that's what you meant when you said tanking?). I just think in this scenario, they are trading because they are going to be signing not 1 but 2 stars. You can't place much value on those picks.

Right now they think they are signing two stars...

I also think Deng is not completely unplayable if used as a PF... he went from being used as a PF almost exclusively to being used exclusively as a SF. I think that is a big inefficiency in the NBA market right now... guys can look awful when played down a position like that. He won't live up to the contract at all, but not a complete write off imo.

I would try and dump AB on them while doing it... he could be stretched and waived with a lower cap hit.

And Randle isnt going to improve if he is playing out of position the way Quin plays his PF's.

Just like Kanter couldn't improve in Utah because he was asked to be a pick and pop big.

Just like Favors development has stalled because he has been asked to be a pick and pop big.

Jazz have to stop trying to put squares pegs into round holes in the PF position. Trading any assets to repeat the cycle with Randle would be a huge error.

Both Snyder and Favors said today that Favors prefers to be a pick and pop player and thinks he is really effective there. Snyder and Favors said that the coaching staff has to push Favors to roll more, especially if Gobert isnt on the court. Snyder said he wants Favors to go after more offensive boards but he doesnt because he isnt in position often when he isnt the roll man.

What would be the point to take Deng and get a lesser deal to dump AB.

I think Quin is lying and Favors is irrational. He's clearly better as a center and the primary rim runner... who can pop out to 15-20 feet with some success.

Also its silly people think its a problem that Favors is playing well with Gobert out and a good player. If he is a good player you dont trade him unless you think you will loose him or you get a better player in return. I doubt we can get a better player. I dont know about him staying, our staff should have an idea. Favors sounds like a guys who wants to be here and stay though and has proven that over time.

Good players can find a way to fit together, especially with a good coach. If you had Shaq and Malone you wouldnt trade one because one couldnt shoot threes or we were struggling to figure things out a few games into a new season.

Our offense is going to improve. Snyder is going to figure out how to play these guys together better. They have played very well together in the past even when we had a PG that couldnt shoot well from 3. They can do it again or Snyder can stagger them a bit more than he has and ride the hot hand.

Honestly I think when Gobert comes back if the team is playing well Snyder should make Gobert try to fit in better than everyone trying to fit around him. Maybe even make Gobert come off the bench for awhile to make him play harder and find his role better on this team. Or even start your best guys but quickly bring in a lineup of Mitchell, Hood, Ingles, Sef and Gobert then let Rubio and Favor's come in and wreck benches. Then you can play the hot hands in the 4th and exploit matchups.

Right now our offense is trying to learn to walk. They will get that down and Snyder will let them run more. Right now he isnt exploiting mismatches and letting players improvise and do as much. He wants them to do the basics first and then we can do the other stuff. That is what he keeps preaching. The players seem to have bought in and feel the same.

Favs and Gobert isn't ideal... I think what we can pay him and what other teams would pay him may be comparable, but all things equal why would he want to be here if it doesn't really click.

IDK... I just think we have such ill fitting pieces and it is kind of obvious... don't think there is some magic elixir that Quin has that will fix it.

I think they will click. Favors seems happy and prefers being a pick and pop player, he thinks he can be really effective at that and he thinks Gobert and himself are a perfect match on defense and on offense they will figure it out, just like the rest of the team does.

I think they are still figuring out the offense and the timing and then we will see improvement.

I also think that Favors and Gobert are struggling together because the rest of the team has been really inconsistent and struggling to make open shots. When players hit their open shots that the offense is creating this team looks good. If the team cant make open shots we will struggle no matter who we have in.

What he prefers and what he is are two different things.

I don't have time to address point by point how wrong this post is, so just know that you're wrong about huge portions (make Gobert fit in with the team? What the **** are you talking about? Fit is fit, and they've been trying to figure how to make Gobert fit since before they traded Kanter. GOBERT IS ALSO UNDER CONTRACT AND FAVORS ISN'T, AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT'S UP TO FAVORS IF HE CHOOSES TO STAY).
