What's new

Nikola Mirotic

Would he crack 36min? Nope. Since Snyder arrived only one player has cracked that mark. Hayward in 2015 with 36.2mpg

Using 36 per min is a bit tricky. Numbers just don't multiply from whatever production you are getting now.

Yet, if we acquire him, I can see Mirotic playing a bit more, between 26 to 30 minutes per game and hoisting about about 6 to 7 threes per game. There are currently 25 players shooting at least 38% on at least 6 attempts. That's very good and would be a big boost in our offense.

I'm just sayin'. I don't think he is this good. Maybe a 28-30mpg, 15-16ppg on 39% on 3s. More like a rich man Ryan Anderson
I'm using per 36 because it's a standard metric for saying per minute what someone is doing. I'm not implying he'll play 36 minutes, but it's not really fair to compare total attempts in one guy playing 25 minutes to another guy playing 34 minutes -- they're both playing enough minutes that a per-minute stat levels the playing field. This isn't like comparing a guy playing 12 mpg of garbage time and generalizing that to 36 mpg. Mirotic is being sat to help a tank and to give Markkanen more minutes, not because he's incapable of playing 28-32 and not because all of the sudden his production would take a steep decline after 25 minutes. While 25 players are shooting 38% on at least 6 attempts, how many of them are playing 25 minutes or less?

Yeah, I think Mitchell has been the best rookie this season.

But if there was a redraft today I'm not sure he goes first. I think it goes Tatum, Markkanen then Mitchell. Having a 7' sharp shooter who can drive is special to build around. Markkanen might be a better prospect than Porz.

Markkanen is legit

They have potential but Donovan is already a superstar.

There's a total of 26 guys who have put up more attempts (per game, not per minute) than Mirotic. 14 have a percentage 38% or higher. 100% of them play more minutes than Niko. 0 of them are big men.

3 players.

Point taken.

My point is that it's not automatic he would reach 9 3 point attempts per game. I'm not saying he is incapable of playing 32mpg or that his production will decline. The amount of minutes he gets (and his shoot attempts) depends on rotations, who we draft, the roster, conditioning, etc. Also, our recent history suggests that even our best players barely crack 34mpg (medical reasons+a deep roster).

For players who have played at least 300 minutes, there are 8 total guys in the league with more attempts per minute than him. None of them are shooting a higher percentage than him. 3/6 shoot 38% or better (Troy Daniels 41.4%, Wayne Ellington 40.7%, James Harden 39% and Steph Curry 41.8%)

ETA: that's 4/8 not 3/6.

Chicago only has $83 million in contracts right now. They have to get to $89.1 or they pay a fine similar to the luxury tax. So the Burks and Rubio for Mirotic does have a little more enticement to it. If Chicago sees their expirings for 2019 as assets, maybe Chicago does that trade.

Mirotic
for
Rubio, Burks, our unprotected 2018 1st

Bulls reach salary floor, get a likely lottery pick, lose more to improve their 2018 pick, and have tons of 2019 expirings.

We get Mirotic and comfortably re-sign Hood and Exum. And we could make moves with Favors and JoeJ

They are also the Bulls and their cap-space is more valuable than most teams. Why would their GM's want to take on contracts when they always have a strong shot at big free agents?

I get that. I think you're misreading me. For the amount of time he's on the floor, the amount of spacing he provides by the volume of threes he puts up is really quite unmatched for any big man. It's not fair to assume he's putting up less attempts because we're comparing him to guys playing 35 minutes on teams that are playing to win.

Because they are not chasing FA's this off-season since they want to tank and more year. Then those players will be expiring assets and give them lots of room to chase free agents in a big free agent year.

Also they want a first for him and taking back salary is likely the only way to get that.

Nothing about the Bulls history says they are going to try and tank tho. Hell they might go after someone like DeAndre Jordan.
