I think DUI laws are generally too lax. Getting a DUI near .08, while is inexcusible, should have a much lower penalty vs something like .16 or higher, being over .08 and driving 30+ over the speed limit, wrecklessly, or having multiple DD convictions--these should be felonies as each unnecessarily puts lives at risk.
34,000 people die per year in the U.S. from drunk driving. A greater number than gun deaths. In almost every instance, where the drunk driver lives, we allow them to drive again, yet we wisely prohibit felons from owning a gun.
Texting is even worse. I used to take public transit, and would watch out the window at all the people on their phones. 25% of crashes occur due to texting. Crazy...
