Jonas Waived

He was deadly from the Corner 3, capable defending bigger players in the post, and a little feisty. It seems like the roster is a little unbalanced now (4 centers?)

I trusted Lindsey when he brought Jonas onboard. Too bad the jazz can't keep everyone, but I will trust lindsey now. Unless Jonas was unhappy and requested waivers something else might be in the works.

I will be signing Niang later today... if you like Jonas you’ll love Niang

Are we worried somebody is going to sign Niang to a roster spot? Why not just give him one of the two-ways and go after Mbah a Moute or Booker?

As I see it we can spend about $4.7 million... a decent player could be had on a similar 1+1?

Jonas was fun though and I will root for him even if he joins the enemy

I’m sure Niang is weighing several max 5 year offers.

I think he’s better than a two way guy but not sure nba teams love him like a son like I do.

I wouldn’t mind Booker but waiving Jonas to sign Booker is kinda weird unless it’s about $$$$. Need a stretch 4 and if one or both of crowder or thabo get hurt we’d likely want a guy like Jonas not a guy like Booker.

I’d rather have a guy with multi year potential on a minimum.

That makes sense if you think that they'd sign him to a Royce type deal.

I'm still holding out for Mbah a Moute.

This summer's money has dried up with only a few teams still having money to spend. If I were a GM for the Jazz I would look for a money ball play right now. Waive Jonas and his one-year deal to sign a guy who provides the same or better than Jonas for 1+1 or a 2+1 deal. This could save the Jazz from overpaying for a similar skill set next summer when all the teams have money and the FA frenzy happens again.

Here’s the thing that chaps my ***:

We aren’t at the tax. Maybe we feel like Jonas was too much money, but he’s a great locker room guy and was a good soldier. We don’t have a real four besides Favors, let alone one that can stretch a bit. If it’s about using his roster spot for Niang, then that’s no beef with Niang. My beef is with the Bradley situation. Last year we waived Bolomboy and this year Jonas — two guys who can have roles and contribute. Instead we occupy a roster spot with Bradley who won’t/can’t get off the floor and who we can’t develop. If we had a redo at 2017 draft I may prefer to have taken Cash Considerations.
