Jazz discussing #3 for #6, #18

You don't ****ing give up a #3 lottery pick for a couple later picks or other trade-down value, that's exactly the same move the Blazers made in the Deron Williams draft. They also thought they were getting comparable talent.

Amen to this. Not that KOC would care, but man I'd be pissed if he did this. The Blazers thought they were so clever and boy did it bite them in the ***. Keep the damned #3 pick.

(Not that I put a whole lot of credence in this rumor.)

Jazz gave up less then #6 and #18 to get Deron. if i rmember it was #6 and #22 i think?

And another pick, I think #28.

We also know how well it turned out for Portland, don't we?

It's not enough value. I stick to the #6 and unprotected next year. Won't happen, but I'm okay with the third pick in this draft.

Regardless, thats a TERRIBLE trade on our part, IMO. I'd much rather risk it with Kanter or Knight than 6/12/18. You win in this league with high draft picks.

As has been said before, the last thing this team needs is 3 guaranteed contracts, especially from this draft.

i agree 100%.

but maybe we're missing something in regards to the current CBA and whatever succeeds it. could it be that this year's picks are more valuable than future picks for some CBA-related reason? a grandfather clause for existing contracts, for example? just a thought.

The difference is that the Blazers knew with 100% certainty that they were giving up Deron/Paul. In this situation, drafting Knight is still a very real possibility if we trade down. It's bad strategy to take a guy at 3 who almost certainly would not go 4. If this were the 23rd pick, then yeah, who cares about trading down a few spots for maximum gain, but this is the 3rd pick. We need to milk it for all its worth.

Jimmer at 6, Singleton at 12, then package Millsap and the 18 pick for Josh Smith? I like it.

Except Josh Smith is way overrated and a head-case. I think Millsap is a better player than him by comparing their stats. Why would we trade a PF for another PF?

Agreed with this ^

I don't put a lot of stock in this rumor. And, I agree with those of you who have said this isn't enough value returning to the Jazz.
But, sure, if KOC is SURE that Knight is his guy and that he'll fall to #6, then this trade (with a chip or two added) makes obvious sense. But, I don't think KOC is just gonna trade down to see what happens; he'll get his guy.

I'm still confused about why the world hasn't been fed a line about our "love" for Kanter. That would make getting value out of the #3 in a trading down scenario much easier.

Yes having 3 draft picks in this draft would make Utah really young but they would be able to fix one of there biggest needs ... a bench.

Kanter/ Jimmer < Jimmer/Moitiejunas/Brooks
Knight/ Singleton < Walker/Singleton/Brooks

Knight, Burks, Biyombo

Jimmer, Singleton, Donatas

Knight, Singleton, Biyombo

Kemba, Thompson, Biyombo

Knight, Thompson, Donatas

Jimmer, Burks, Biyombo

All these would be great picks, my favorite is the top one

Harris/Knight
Burks/CJ
Hayward/Evans
Favors/Millsap
Jefferson/Biyombo

Knight, Burks, Hayward, Favors, and Biyombo is a friggin sweet young core to build around

That confuses me as well. It diminishes our leverage if everybody thinks we want Knight—unless, perhaps, professing love for Kanter would be too obvious of a misdirection, or perhaps other teams' love for Kanter is misdirection.

If the Jazz allow themselves to be connected to Knight, perhaps others will see that as a misdirection and think they really like Kanter, and that may do more to convince others that the Jazz want Kanter than actually saying we want Kanter would. It's all very complicated.

I'm thinking this must be the case. Nice 'un, somebody.

Jazz need to draft Kanter at 3, and then start a bidding war between Washington, Toronto, and Cleveland.
