If this team isn't willing to really fight to get better then you're right, but they should also sell the team and move to Seattle at that point, too.

I think the emergence of Donovan has given the franchise the direction it needs. I also believe that Favors could be a good center for us. Not as good as Gobert, but if Gobert was turned into great improvements at other positions, then we could be better without him.
I think we can build a team around Donovan that doesn't have to have Gobert to be a contender. With that being the case, why pay Gobert 35% of our salary?

Good question. I'm putting tier one guys at the cutoff as Kemba. Obvious superstars like IF and Leonard are the prime FA but ya Kemba is my cutoff of Tier1

This first post I have ever agree with you on. Jazz got DM to build around and that's a nice
Starting spot. I don't know what you get for Gobert but Favors at center is his natural position if you asked me. What do you think you could get for Gobert? Do you want players or picks?

C'mon buddy. We agree more than that.
I don't think Gobert is the type guy who gets you a current star. For example, I don't think Gobert gets Beal or AD. However, I do think Gobert gets a promising young player and picks.
I don't know who is the perfect team to trade with, but I do think a trade should be considered especially if Gobert shows signs of wanting that supermax or frustration with the Jazz FO for not getting better enough.

So what you’re saying is that the Jazz won’t sign Durant, Leonard, Butler, or Kemba?
Other teams are happy to pay large amount of luxury tax, not so much the Jazz.

Don't have to release them until a FA puts ink to paper, or July 6th, when we'd have to pick up or decline the option on Favors. But that's 1 week after the moratorium ends. It's very likely the FA's we're talking to (like Harris) will have made up their minds. Even that cream puff, Hayward, made his decision by July 4th. And Dennis' fall back option, Otto Porter, made up his mind that day too, IIRC (Lindsey was returning on the plane with Snyder after meeting with Porter's agent).
I think Bricky is gone in any case...and good riddance. He's a lousy shooter and, IMO, an overrated defender. I'd rather see Donovan slide over to the 1 and Royce start at the 2. Improved defense and another 3pt shooter on the court. Whether Favors returns is probably dependent on getting Tobias. I don't see Utah giving up a ton of assets for Conley at this point. Lindsey was willing to give up a guy we no longer wanted (Ricky) and Derrick, plus a pick in the 20's. He wouldn't budge on Exum. I don't see that changing now.
Jazz, if they strike out, are better off staying over the cap so they can use the full MLE. Dropping below really handicaps them this summer and even next, unless/until they can sign or trade for a 2nd-tier FA.

By my count, Jazz have saved $20-$30M every year under the Lindsey regime except Hayward's last, when Dennis made his half-***, too-little-too-late effort to convince Gordon the Jazz were all of a sudden serious about winning and spending the money to do so. Gordon was spineless for sure, but at least he called Dennis' bluff and basically said, "I don't believe you."
And Dennis lathered, rinsed and repeated the last two years, when he had the chance to get a couple of decent free agents, but instead went with DLeaguers, scrubs and cheap Euros. To those who believe his "financial flexibility" ********, I call as evidence the 2yr or 1yr deals that many free agents signed as everyone was looking to the summer of 2019. Could some of those contracts even been parlayed into trades?
So I'm not going to excuse the Jazz for being tightwads again, nor commend them if they go into the luxury tax to retain Gobert, pay Mitchell, etc. They've been ripping off the fans for long enough by having a payroll in the 28th-30th range for many years and again being in the lower echelon (23rd) this past season. Pay up or GTFO out of Utah and sell to an ownership group who wants to be #1. I like Mitchell enough to follow him wherever he goes - as long as it ain't Boston. Rudy? Meh. Like his fire, but it's gotten old. Develop a shot outside of 5 ft, for god's sake. Maybe get back in the gym instead of globetrotting with your little buddy, Raul.
