Did you guys know the North Korea is a democratic republic nation? Oh you didn't think they were because they don't actually have any legitimate democratic institutions or political processes? Well, news flash dumb asses, it's the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea! It says what they are right in their name. Their actions can't undo their name. If they are called the Democratic People's Republic of... then they are a Democratic People's Republic. Boom! Case closed. You lose. Neener-neener.

[puts hands over ears]
I can't hear you.
I'm not listening to you.
You're wrong.

but hitlers party wanst only called national socialist.
he called himself a national socialist
his book meinf kampf is all about socialism
and his government implemented for 93% socialist policies.

as far as i know kim young un doesnt call himself a president or other republic leader.
as far as i know in his speeches he doesnt talk about republican principles
dont know if wrote a book. but if he did i bet you he isnt spouting democratic republic ideals.
and as far as we know his govenrment isnt implementing republican or democratic policies.

those 2 things differ.

It has been my understanding that race is more closely related to biology, while ethnicity is culture/heritage. My wife is a caucasian (race) Hispanic (ethnicity) woman.

How much melanin you have, what color your skin is, the susceptibility to sickle cell anemia, or how anesthesia affects you is biological, are all closely tied to racial constructs. Much of race (and scientific classification and nomenclature in general) is indeed appearance based. But there are also unseen biological differences between races as well. Where things get muddy is that humans haven’t succumbed to isolated speciation and are intertacially procreating.

There are pros and cons for every societal enforced idea whether it be monogamy or celibacy.

The men who are part of the incel movement, for the most part, come across as entitled, whiny, and completely lacking in empathy. If they are celibate, it is from their behavior, not any enforcement from society.

Even truly forced marriage has been shown to have more stability than the choose your own adventure model.

Define "stability". Denmark is as stable as ever, even while marriage is on the decline.

So this is a thread I started before I was "out" as a parent of a transgender child.

I got my other thread closed for things not related to the issue at hand (or at least I assume so, you were vague AF @Jason I honestly wondered if you closed the thread because discussion of transgenderism was not appropriate for jazzfanz for a second before I finally remembered how stupid of a post I had made).

So there was a lot of denial when I first posted this. But this is a thing. People treat the issue like they are being tricked. Like it's about them, not about the transgender person. The whole, "can I identify as Chinese" joke. That joke obviously portrays this as an issue where someone is pretending to be something they are not. If you think that joke is funny you obviously also think transgender people are, on some level, being dishonest and/or pretending.

I'd like to discuss that view.

I think it's a lot like the old standby discussions regarding faith, for example how can you describe the color blue if you've never seen it before, or how do you describe what an orange tastes like if you've never had citrus before. I think for a lot of people it is so foreign that it defies understanding, and frankly most people are afraid, on some level, of things they do not understand. I think that's where a lot of that comes from. Just my $0.02

I think you, myself and many others have been educated and more informed about transgender on Jazzfanz over the years.

I don't think that joke is funny. I can see the point people try to make while saying it, if I'm going to be perfectly honest. Do you?

I enjoy reading up on the origins of expressions. Two-cents is one I haven't read about until now. lol
(yes, I know the expression - again, I like reading about their origins - some expressions have really interesting beginnings.)

Thread closure was unrelated to transgender issues.
