There are not many players who have the physical capabilities of Udoka and on top of that Udoka seems to have a high character. Not that Boban needs to jump much but Dok is a better athlete in every aspect. Can’t pass, shoot, dribble, or move on the perimeter. He’s a poor mans Boban. He’s going to be as effective as about 10 players we could get on the open market at somewhere between the minimum and the BAE. We are assuming he will be ready now but he is likely to **** up the offense as hard or harder than Ed in his first year.
Also a budget Deandre Jordan gets played off the floor by round 2 of the playoffs. The move shows how our management can’t be flexible or innovative. We play the same way all the time... even though nba teams have proved they can beat that style in the playoffs.
I don't agree with Davis comparison. Ed's screens were more like slips and his rolls were for positioning for offensive rebounding rather than a pass. He also didn't have touch needed from a below the rim player. Udoka will set harder screens, he already shows good positioning on rolls and under the rim and he can dunk the **** out of everything.
We can still be flexible with Rudy Gobert but that depends on free agency. Switch, blitz, hedge he will still be effective at it.
Udoka is a band-aid, it is easier to insert a rim presence than sending away JC, reducing Ingles and Niang's role and getting 2-3 proven wing defenders.
