My Mom has it now. Its the 3rd person I know in my family to get it among many friends. I am much more concerned about her though. She has been pretty good about wearing mask and socially distancing. I have no idea how she got it but I would guess church since that is the only gathering they still do. She is 75 and has some health issues that will put her at high risk. So far no hospitalization, but she isnt doing well. Its going to be a hard choice for me if she gets hospitalized. I cant come back to China if I leave for the US. Latest news is student Visa's arent allowed back into China until September. My girlfriend is Chinese so she is banned from the US still, which is obviously pretty stupid that its the only country banned from the US due to the virus. Hopefully it doesnt get worse for my Mom. My other option is to get married to make it easier for us to travel together, not really the way I want to get married, but not a big deal. I could also quit my job here and take my PhD classes online for a semester but I wouldnt be stoked about that option. I know its a lot of similar hard choices for everyone during this time.

I'm sorry about your mom and how hard this is for you. Hope it all works out.

Posters here have a bizarrely high rate of running into anti-vaxxers. There cant be more than three four hundred of them and you find them all.

I don't get the oversized concern with a few moonbats. They make life interesting.

There are several just in my neighborhood. They home school their children so they don't have to vaccinate them. I can't believe that if my little neighborhood has a few families, that there are only a few hundred in the country.

There aren't just a few hundred.

The "moonbat" to "non-moonbat" ratio is becoming an actual threat to our society. It's not cute when someone decides to abandon reality and live in whatever fantasy they prefer, not when that becomes a substantial portion of the population, as it currently is.

You must not talk to many people, hah. I guess we will see how many get it. I would guess that about 20-30% refuse. Most of those people are already convinced it isnt safe. Its sad because the vaccine isnt full proof. So you are still putting others at risk, but at least its greatly minimized. I am just hoping the vaccine gets things under control in the US so I can actually come back to visit my friends and family.

I hope i have received all the main vaccines (which are usually free today and were mandatory anyway for kids during the Soviet Union regime) and also my daughter was vaccinated with all the free ones and some paid ones. About 20 years ago when i visited a customer site - they had some free-for-employees vaccination process against flu. One person did not want the shot so they offered it to me. I gladly accepted it - not sure whether it helped or not.
However, it seems that compared to 20-40 years ago, the medical system at least in my country is too much commercialized for my taste. A la it seems that some doctors just told us that you should do this or that because a pharmacy company told that and using their own experience and knowledge is kind of forbidden and they do seem to be too generic with the advise.

When i was planning my travel to India 10 years ago, then also all the medical advice was IMHO provided by those who had not been to India at all. For example, after my trip i asked from medical specialists how to get this or that virus in India i.e will i get it already when the plane touches the ground in Delhi airport or do i need to to drink the tap water in some public toilet in Pahar Ganj. If the medical specialists are not precise with the answers, then who else?

I used ordinary tap water to brush my teeth and used a shot of rum in the morning to keep bad guys at stomach in check. Worked until the last day; i was out of rum and we decided to buy some bottled beers from the local slum booze store near our hotel. The result - the souvenir beer even back home messed up my father's and brother's stomach for couple of days.

IMHO that could be one of the possible reasons that people are either cautious like me or worst case hysterical anti-vaxxers (at least one post in Facebook per day).

Is vaccination against tick-borne diseases common in USA or Utah?

A girl I've known since I was two and who is very good friends with my wife and my sister got COVID. She has MS. Her husband and son also got COVID and her husband has been in the hospital for more than a week now and was intubated in the last couple days. Today the DR told my friend that her husband might not live. He's in his early 40s and had no significant underlying condition. She's doing pretty well as far as her COVID symptoms have gone.

My friend's husband got COVID because his brother or cousin has to have supervised visitation and he is the designated supervisor. He found out the kid had COVID and didn't think much of it and didn't get tested. Then his kid started showing symptoms so they got their kid tested and he was positive so then they got tested as well and were positive.

My friend said they were joking about how it was nothing because they didn't have major symptoms right away. Then my friend's father in law called her and told her that she needed to get her husband to the hospital because he was incoherent on the phone (he was in a different room). He was cognitively "off" for about a week. He called his wife at 3am on his third day in the hospital telling her that he had been there for 15 days and that they hadn't given him any water in 5 days and that she needed to come pick him up. He kept acting erratic like that and wanting to leave the hospital. Finally his mental issues cleared up but shortly after that his COVID symptoms got a lot more serious.

I don't think they were taking COVID seriously even after they got it. A day after the husband went to the hospital my wife was talking to our friend and her friend mentioned that her sons girlfriend was over at their house! Like WTF?!? Our friend has been working from home and hasn't told her employer that she has COVID, yesterday they had a ****ing holiday party, it was mostly contactless, but not entirely, and my friend went and interacted with other people there. I want to smack some damn sense into her.

I hardly ever run into anti-vaxers. Of course I quit pretty much all social media close to 8 years ago. Don't miss it a bit.

Reading that made my heart hurt, but more than that it made my head hurt.
What's your friend's perspective now? Is she still being flippant about having guests over when she had COVID?
Or did she think she wasn't contagious any more because she didn't have any symptoms?
Did she actually host a holiday party with people over to her house while her husband was in the hospital on a ventilator dying????
