Protestors storm capital

I’ve recently read some good books on Hitler. I’ve found some similarities in the two. Having said that, Trump has similarities to a variety of authoritarian leaders. You’ll see these in many past and contemporary dictators. Stalin, Hitler, Pinochet, Putin, Trump, etc. But the similarities with Hitler ice found

1. Malignant narcissism (it’s all about him. Usually unresolved issues from childhood)
2. Psychopathy (no conscience no biliary to empathize with others)
3. Inferiority Complex
4. Corruption
5. The ability to connect with large swaths of people through demagoguery

Having said that, the differences between the main differences between the t:

1. Hitler was a politically savvy and a master actor. He could appear as a rabid fascist or moderate depending on the audience. He could play other politicians to achieve his goals. Whether it was winning over President Hindenburg, playing Mussolini, or making Chamberlain look like a complete fool. Trump has one gear. The only people he’s been able to play are people who I honestly wonder how they put on their pants daily. No world leader has ever been played by Trump.

2. Our institutions held (barely). As @Gameface said, the comparisons don’t have to end just because they didn’t have similar fates. We haven’t had a repeat of the Holocaust in large part because of the lessons we learned from it. We had the advantage of the last century to prepare for a demagogue like Trump.

however, we can gain keen insights into trump/Hitler comparisons by reflecting back on how trump reacted to a variety of events that happened under his watch.

Has Trump shown any concern for his people? affer that hurricane hit PR, remember how he shot paper towels at them? Has he shown any real concern for Republicans? Did he care when our troops were being killed off by Russian bounties? Has he cared at all about the death and destruction wrought by covid? Over 3,500 Americans died yesterday from it. Has he made a peep about them? What about when border security opened fire with rubber bullets and tear gas on a bunch of immigrants? He encouraged Sec Nelson to do that more often. What about the kids in cages thing? Did he ever show any concern for them? Has he ever actually condemned racism? Remember Charlottesville and ******** countries?

3. Trump is lazy as hell. The only times he shows any ambition is to have sex with a porn star, hold rallies, and commit crimes. Hitler was very ambitious.

My issue is most of these politicians are ****** people too. I probably fell for too much Reddit **** on Clinton... I didn’t want to vote for Trump but saw it as the lesser of two evils.
This is exactly the kind of equivalency Trump supporters trot out daily. It happened in 2016 and it happened in 2020. Most people are **** people. That doesn't mean that some aren't more **** than others. I'm a jerk to people in online video games and call my teammates morons at times. I have never had someone accuse me of sexually assaulting them, though. There's a difference of severity there. Just like using the wrong email server isn't quite the same as the litany of **** Trump has done. And just like being a "tough-on-crime" AG is probably not as racist as taking out a full page ad in the papers calling for lynching of 5 black kids who were innocent.

Yes, all politicians are **** people, but Republicans happen to be more **** on average. And Trump happens to be even more **** than Republicans.

Bringing Hitler into it is valid since Trump used to keep a copy of Hitler’s book A New Order next to his bed for a little light reading according to his ex-wife. Snopes looked into it and said Trump had an odd 30 year fascination with Germany. And then have Trump telling Ryan Germany he has a nice last name.

Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio just spoke with Brian Williams and he hit it out of the park in summing up Trump and the Republicans culpability in what transpired today.

Trump needs to be removed from office immediately. He has clearly given up trying to president and is now melting down as all malignant narcissists do when vanquished. Keeping him empowered will only lead to more death and destruction. Remember, he’s sitting on top of the world’s 2nd largest nuclear stockpile. Twitter just took him down for 12 hrs because he cannot be trusted with a phone and yet some of you want to trust him with the nuclear football?

Seeing Congress tonight act like nothing happened today is so disheartening. Most Republicans and some Democrats are acting like “business as usual,” this is discouraging to me and ultimately makes me worried that we haven’t seen the worst yet. Without accountability history shows that these seditionists will try again; more organized and more emboldened than ever.

Absolutely. Trump should be arrested for sedition. 100%.

Fascinating to see the reactions from so many politicians, former politicians and pundits regarding todays events on Brian William's show on CNBC. Among the others, currently watching former RNC chairperson Michael Steele's incredulous reaction to today's events and it's heartening to see these people speaking out against Trump.

Which GOP senators have abandoned their challenge to the election?

I can't believe any of the others would continue down this ridiculous path especially in light of todays events, yet they are.

You'd rather they continue with the stupidity I guess... Grab em by the ***** should have been my line in the sand... I still reluctantly voted for the ******* in 2016. I changed my mind over the next 4 years and participated in voting him out. So would you rather I still blindly vote republican in 2020?

I'm not saying the politicians who supported him and are just now switching sides should be welcomed with open arms. They have a much higher degree of accountability and knowledge. If people are now saying "****... look at this clown... looks like I was wrong." I'm not gonna throw it in their face. For some people it takes longer to get there.
Great post my man. Too bad we live in a world where we get beaten up as dogmatic for not changing our minds, then get beaten up as cowardly for changing them.

I just missed it. I have it recorded but won’t get to it tonight. What did he say?

It really is ****ing nuts, pulling the temple down on their heads, Who'd have thought this would ever happen? If you said to me 5 years ago, a failed businessman from a privileged background, turned ****** reality TV star, would inspire a bunch of white trash to stage the most amateur coup seen in the Americas in a generation, during a global pandemic, I'd have told you you're nuts.

Yep.
I LOVE people who are willing to change their minds. I think that's a good quality in a person.

Looking at Facebook the Trumpers narrative seems to be that the violent protesters were all antifa disguised as Trumpers to make Trumpers look bad.
Trump supporters were only peacefully protesting.

The funny thing is that as I was watching the events unfold today I was thinking "I wonder when the Trumpers will start blaming all of this on someone else. I bet they will blame antifa"
And here we go.
