Zimmerman/Martin Jury

Dude, snag me a TV.

welcome back.

Forget the TV and the whole Media race-baiting campaign. . . . you've got your rep to defend. . . . in JF terms, that is. lol

The jury got it right. The cops got it right in the first place. The politicians demanded this trial, to satisfy the major Media thugs hell-bent on running up the racist flags.

stupid kids do stupid stuff. . . . regardless of race. Blacks do stupid to blacks, whites do stupid to whites. Everybody does stupid to everybody. It's not any kind of race issue.

If you're out in the night, and there's anything concerning. . . call the cops and go home. uhhhmmm. . . . better yet, go home and call the cops.

Oh my bad, we should feel sorry for the black people and let them call us crackers because of all the years we did it to them. Back when nobody really cared about it and when whites were treated superior to blacks. Now that we are even it is alright for them to do it. I got you.

If you read my post properly, no where did I ever justify the use of 'cracker' being okay. I'm simply providing the reasoning as to why the double standard exists-- and the reasons for it are awfully fair.

Regardless, I've noticed that no one addressed my response to Trout's point regarding blacks
I think the question then becomes "well, how did they adopt that culture?". Because it sure as hell wasn't there when Blacks first started coming to America.

And if we figure out who is responsible, then maybe they should put concerned efforts to pull them out of this outcasted cultural rut of us against America.

I don't agree Dal. We don't have an eyewitness right now who can tell us who threw the first punch or who attacked who. One of the witnesses testified that Martin was on top of Zimmerman and thrust downward with his arms. Zimmerman claims he was slamming his head in the sidewalk. All of this while Zimmerman was asking the witness to help him. The witness went and called the police. As for Zimmerman following Martin, that did happen to a point. Then he supposedly was walking back to his vehicle when Martin came behind him and confronted him.

All in all, there just wasn't enough evidence IMO to convict. That's JMO.

Very fair points. It just bugs me to no end that he even tried to apprehend the kid to begin with. But it's over now.

EDIT: Crap I found this screenshot of what lupe says but it contains the word ******* at one point and I don't want an infarction so I tried to edit it with a black box over word but it is too small :(

What Lupe Fiaco says on twitter. The justice system is guilty until proven innocent. We don't know he did it beyond reasonable doubt.

wonder if things might have been different if he'd been charged with involuntary manslaughter... but of course given the way the cops and prosecutor's office messed up from the get-go, that probably was never an option

I think they would have had a fair shot had they gone after manslaughter. Instead of focusing on proving that Zimmerman had ill will toward Treyvon they could have driven the point that the entire chain of events was set in motion by Zimmerman who was aggressively and threateningly pursuing Martin. Even if Martin struck first you could argue he had essentially been backed into a corner and under intense pressure made a mistake by striking first but that he never would have attacked Zimmerman had he not felt threatened by him. Then you can just focus on every point at which Zimmerman made a decision to take the aggressive action that lead closer and closer to the point of no return instead of the more reasonable action that would have prevented the tragedy altogether. You could even argue that the path Zimmerman had set out on would likely have resulted in tragedy even if Martin hadn't confronted him at that exact moment, that Zimmerman's repeated actions that one by one pushed Martin and Zimmerman closer to confrontation would have had the same result regardless of Martin's actions.

Seems like a much more compelling case to me. I think seeking 2nd degree murder was a political decision.

but they were allowed to consider a charge of manslaughter, right? and the state couldn't prove that to a sufficient degree to convince the jury - granted, that wasn't what they were really aiming for but still...

in related news - is anyone besides me troubled by the tweet of Zimmerman's brother saying he's "proud to be an American" because of the verdict?
sort of makes me sick to my stomach...

Or maybe... Black people are more likely to commit a crime? That sounds harsh, but stereotypes exist for a reason. When your culture thinks it's cool to rape women, kill cops, kill whitey, lie, steal, and cheat then don't be surprised when the culture actually does those things at a higher rate than another culture.

Yes, we are still a racist nation, but if you want to bring up ignorance on one side, you better be willing to look at your own as well.

As for this story -- people who actually thought that Zimmerman was guilty, or that he would be found guilty, should really take a step back and reevaluate their existence. The Thriller thought he was guilty... 'nuff said.
No one said that black culture was flawless. To deflect and bring up another issue without addressing the first is cowardly. We cannot fix the racial problems in our country without people being willing to work on what they know is wrong. Bill Cosby mirrored your argument(kind of) but he was speaking as a black man. If he is capable(along with others) of honestly addressing the problems with his "culture" can't you take that on good faith and take to heart the facts below.

According to the Human Rights Watch, people of color are no more likely to use or sell illegal drugs than whites, but they have higher rate of arrests. African Americans comprise 14 percent of regular drug users but are 37 percent of those arrested for drug offenses.
The U.S. Sentencing Commission stated that in the federal system black offenders receive sentences that are 10 percent longer than white offenders for the same crimes. The Sentencing Project reports that African Americans are 21 percent more likely to receive mandatory-minimum sentences than white defendants and are 20 percent more like to be sentenced to prison.

Comments like that are distasteful to say the least. All sorts of trash being thrown out there today. Stuf like "black kid got what he deserved", "it's now legal for crackers to kill black people", calls for zimmermans head and those acting like God is pleased with anyone side over the over.

Sickening.

I don't disagree. Obviously the wealthy and Caucasians are treated more favorably by studies... What does this have to do with this case? Zimmerman is a self described Hispanic male. The media sold this false narrative that he was a white man itching to shoot Trayvon Martin because he was black.

The race of Zimmermen is not the significant factor(not very dark is he). People have been looking for any excuse to say that trayvon deserved it. I think there is a disconcerting good riddance feeling among many white people(jury). A self defense defense would not have worked for zimmerman if he shot trevor the 17 year old white kid.

Bull ****. You don't know that. And to assume that white people are happy that Trayvon is dead? Come on.
