Hayward getting extension???

Unless Burks blows up, he won't be getting an extension. Kanter? probably.

Let us say that Hayward is at 10.4 and Kanter gets 12.25 like Favors. That is roughly 35 million for 3 guys. That gives Utah about 22-25 million left for the rest of the team...

the 52 million 5 year being thrown around averages out to 10.4 a year. Is that really that bad?

Are you kidding? That would be fantastic. The rumor last night was that he's getting the MAX! That would simply be a franchise ruining move.

That's pretty bad if you think the odds are 50% or greater that he curves out as a league average starter for his position.

Multiple teams would pay Hayward 10m/y. If you're not willing to pay that much, then you're not interested in keeping him.

I'll be honest, I think most contracts in the NBA that are at about $8 million or higher are bad deals for the teams.

Meh, I think the ONLY reason that these extensions are getting done now is BECAUSE they are front loaded. Favors at 12.25 front loaded and Hayward at 10.5 or so front loaded is freakin' genius. If you let the players go RFA, then you don't get to control the contract structure, you extend the players, you get to do great things like frontload. Seriously everyone knows that frontloading the contract is beneficial for the Jazz. The players want their money now rather than later. Can someone give me a logical reason why these contracts would NOT be front loaded? San Antonio likes to front load contracts, so this will not be a foreign concept for Lindsey.

I have been thinking about that and does it really matter? Kanter and the 2014 picks will all know that the 5 years is not an option so they just have to deal with it. Ultimately Utah can pay them more money than anyone else or at least match an offers made.

Cannot argue with that. Excellent logic.

I'd be fine with Hayward at 10.4. Where are you getting that number?

The figures being thrown around on this board. I have seen no credible rumors in regards to a max. So I am not freaking out about anything.

But a 5 year 52 million is great. I was mostly trying to show that it is not bad. People tend to just see the total figure and freak out without doing some basic math.

All signs point to 80% of the board having no real clue what is coming this season and going so far off the deep end that I'll need to buy a old school diving suit.

It sounds like it would be a smart thing to do. I can't think of a reason not to do this. Get them cash now while we have the room, and allow room to sign others in the future while still keeping the players we want. Is there a downside I'm not seeing either?

Do we actually know that Favors' contract is front loaded?

Per David Locke's tip-off Stein is just guessing. Deal if it is going to be done won't happen until deadline on Halloween.

Last night, most tweets mentioned 13m+. Nobody was blowing up because they couldn't calculate 52/5.

Id be pissed with 5/52 because we can only give out one five year contract per team. I'd rather use that either on Kanter, or the incoming 2014 draftee if he happens to be the troof.

I don't think we know if anything is front loaded, but would be a good idea.

To this point I'm pretty sure we all know next to nothing and we are all just blowing smoke.
