What's new

Game Thread: Utah @ BYU, Sat. 9/21 8:15pm MT, ESPN2

Colton you can rationalize the L any way you want.

To answer you're question both seasons would have some blemish of disappointment and I honestly do think that Byu doing well is good for utes football (and all utah schools).

Don't compare BYUs schedule to the utes seriously it's not even close.

A few years from now the Byu v Utes game will be second fiddle to utes v colorado, so I understand you're resentment and we're sorry we just have to do what's best for us right now.

*whom

For the two schools, essentially, just in reverse.

So in your fantasy world an "actual scenario" for this season is that byu is in the Pac 12, and did well enough to finish the season ranked #16? WTF are you talking about?

Also, I would hope that anyone who says "whom" in a conversation would quickly get punched in the face.

Yup. And I'm sure they'll have a big bronzed up turd made at some point to hand out to the winner each year in recognition of how hard everybody tried to force the Colorado/Utah rivalry.

Don't be bitter. We didn't mean for it to end like this.

Speaking of Whoms
It's definitely a boy I saw his little member just about an hour ago.

Whom shall I punch?

So, serious question for the Ute Fans...

Which would you rather have:

a) a season where you did well enough in the Pac 12 and out-of-conference games that you finish ranked, say #16 nationally--but you lost to the Cougars?

or

b) a season where you beat the Cougars, but did mediocre in the Pac 12 and other games, and ended up ranked, say #41?

I'm very interested in your answers.

Edit: In case it's not obvious, those rankings are the current Cougar/Ute compilation rankings from https://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm.

To address your question, there were U fans saying (I believe even in this thread) that they would be happier if the U could win the PAC12 South even if they lost this game because it is more important and would bring more recognition (granted this was also brought up amidst why the Rivalry wasn't as big to the U anymore). However if the U did lose to them the reality of winning the PAC12 South isn't likely, possible but not likely.

Also just like some people are choosing to say that some are dodging this question I would say some people are ignoring the very valid point of the schedule over the same period of time. The U hasn't played a game as easy as that since and the other team hasn't played a team as tough as the U since.

Not sure why the Utes fans are even taking time to reply to this.

Just post gifs of people laughing. It's the most hilarious justification of losing I have yet seen on Jazzfanz, and y'all should enjoy it while it lasts.

A simple choice A or choice B will suffice. The actual scenario is based on the current rankings on the compilation website I provided. One team is ranked #16 and has a 6-2 record, the other team is ranked #40 now and has a 4-4 record. But you can treat it as purely hypothetical if you want. I'd like to know which option you'd pick. A win over BYU and ranked #40, or a loss to BYU and ranked #16. Which one is it?

Also, I would hope that anyone who says "whom" in a conversation would quickly get punched in the face.

Who was it that said earlier in the thread that if our roles were reversed, the thread just wouldn't work? :)

I'm not justifying losing at all. Please see point #1 of this post of mine: https://jazzfanz.com/showthread.php...-15pm-MT-ESPN2&p=684476&viewfull=1#post684476

That being said, I really would like one or more Ute fans to go on the record about which situation they'd rather have their team in at the end of the season, choice A or choice B. It's a simple enough question. I'm somewhat surprised that not a single one has answered my question.

It's not a catch 22, but that's probably not quite what you meant.* You probably mean that it's a lose-lose situation, or something like that...but surely you have a preference between the two scenarios, do you not? I heard lots of Utah fans say how "over" BYU they were, that the only thing they cared about was Pac 12 standings, and by implication national standings. So, is that REALLY the case (in which case, pick A), or does the BYU game still have a substantial significance (in which case, pick B)?

Or if you really don't want to pick, maybe, just maybe you (collectively, not you individually) should get off the case of BYU fan for being somewhat pleased as to how the season is progressing, despite the loss to Utah.

* A catch 22 is a pardoxical situation, which is not the case here.

I choose option Q which says that I would rather watch BYU fans behave as desperately as you are right now. Please carry on.

LOL. At least Ute fans are consistent in their unwillingness to answer my simple question. What are you all afraid of?

Which would you choose, Colton?

A. Being a fan of a team who is taking their knocks trying to mature and compete in a difficult and highly respected conference.
B. Being a fan of a team whose administration is so arrogant that they have no conference affiliation, rendering their season meaningless the moment they have a single loss.

I choose option A a million times over.
