This sounds very interesting to me. Do you have any links where I can read up on it?

Also, can one not have any calories at all until their one meal? For instance, could I have Gatorade or water with some lemon juice in it?

aka the Herschel Walker Diet or the Warrior Diet:

https://www.bettermanproject.com/the-diet-that-contradicts-everything-you-know-about-nutrition/

Under-Eating Phase (20 hours) - As you can tell, this is not a true fast, as this diet allows for small amounts of food during the “fasting” period. You are allowed 2-3 small snacks of 300 calories or less each time. These snacks can consist of fresh fruit (preferably low-GI fruit), fresh vegetables, nuts, and small amounts of protein if necessary.

Overeating Phase (4 hours)
- When “dinner” time rolls around, once you begin your first meal, you then get 4 hours to eat as many times as you need, until you reach satisfaction. Ori recommends eating by “feel” and taking 20 minutes in between each “meal” to determine if you are still hungry. A good rule of thumb, according to Ori, is to stop eating when you feel more thirsty than hungry. IMPORTANT: During the over-eating phase, begin with fresh veggies, such as a salad, move on to cooked veggies, followed by animal protein, and lastly, carbohydrates if you choose to have them.

I tried it a few years back. My problem was that I couldn't get to sleep after slopping down a bigger meal at night than I normally did. It actually helps some people sleep though I guess.

This honestly sounds perfect for me. I usually never ate lunch at work and only had one XL coffee black with sugar, all day from the time I got up at 5:15am til about 4pm. But about eleven days ago, I started eating better and working out and tracking everything I eat. To perfection. After a month or so of this, I'll post what I ate every single day...it's basically around 3,000 calories, 210 grams of protein and 30 grams of fat.

for study with hgh secretion.

For study of increasing metabolism. Eating 1 meal a day actually increases your alertness and energy. It has been hypothesized because it makes your body go into "hunting mode" by releasing adrenoline.

So intermittent fasting increases HGH the muscle building fat reducing hormone. It also increases your metabolism. PLUS it makes it so it is easier to eat less than 2000 calories a day. It pains me to admit it but I used to be 265 lbs in college. I have the stretch marks to prove it. I am currently 185 pounds (6'0" btw). Intermittent fasting for 3 years with breaks when I am visiting family etc.

Google "herchel walker diet" or "warrior diet" or "intermittent fasting"

There is a youtube channel dedicated to it called "fasting twins"

Here is a video on them. They have tons of videos on it.

I've just got too much on at the moment, working 6 days a week and usually too tired to go out after work. Having a home gym is really handy cos you can just pop in for 30 min. and you're done for the day and can just have a shower and relax.

No need to get dressed up and drive out in the cold, etc. I think convenience was my biggest barrier to exercise before I bit the bullet and got something set up at home.

I do love me some 5 on 5 though, I'm probably most similar to JJ Barea without the 3pt shot.

Probably more like JJ Abrams.

I love broccoli and brown rice as well.

Brown rice is soooo overated. We all agree that white rice is ***. Spoonful of white rice might as well be a spoon full of sugar. Brown rice is barely more healthy than white rice. Just a little bit more fiber and protein. The best carbs are veggies and beans. If beans weren't some cheap well known food people would think of it as some sort of exotic weight loss grain. Compare the fiber and protein that beans have with rice, whole wheat, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, quinoa, bulghur (many turks will know this), tef (ethopian grain). Beans beats them all.

Isn't it summer down under?

Starting a training program tomorrow for a sprint triathlon. Not anything crazy, but 12 weeks of swimming, cycling and running. I have been eating better, and I am going to cut way down on sugars and carbs. Right now I am 5'11" 240. Gotta either get taller or skinnier. I hear it's pretty impossible to get taller at my age, so I gotta trim down.

Holy cow you're heavy for a triathlon. How much weight are you hoping to lose? I'm thinking at least 30 pounds.

I would love to get to about 195, but that is long term. 195 for me looks super skinny because I have a big build. It's not a full triathlon though, a sprint is just a half mile swim, 5k run and a 13 mile bike ride. Any of those things I am fine doing right now on their own, but I am hoping to get faster and feel fine putting all three together on race day.

Yeah ok but I'm Asian so I've gotta have rice...

Good on you bro, all the best.

I'm 5'8" and was 165lbs (75kg) when I started eating right & exercise, now I'm 143lbs (65kg). I was 181lbs (82kg) when I was at my heaviest (working in an office, having food cooked for me, etc).

I Still have a bit of love handle / belly fat.. hopefully I can get that area toned up a bit.

The one thing I don't understand about Asians is that they can't pronounce the "L" sound yet half of them are named Lee.

Seriousry what's up with that?

b_line and Duckdodgers both speak Chinese so I think it's best to ask him....

I have been thinking a lot lately about where I have felt the best in my weight ranges. I think everyone's body has an "ideal" weight where you feel best and are able to do the most activity. For me, it was always around 190 or so. In the past 10 years, I have spent time at weight ranges from 165 (I was working like 16 hour days living on like $180 usd per month in Asia) to my weight of about 200 when I was in university, to my current "dad" weight of 235-240. Definitely felt like underweight was as bad as overweight for me, as both of them leave me with less energy and drive for physical activity. I am ready to prioritize being healthy again though, and I am really excited about that.

Yeah my comfortable weight is 165, I can eat what I want with not much exercise and I'd be able to stay at that weight pretty comfortably. But I've always had it at the back of my mind that I was not as healthy as I could be, I'd always had this ring of fat around my waist and always on the chubby side.

Now that I'm 143 I'm trying to figure out how to stay at this weight without having to exercise everyday and being able to 'cheat' and eat what I want once in a while without reverting to my old weight. I'll keep you guys posted as to how I can achieve this.

Vietnamese people seem to do the same thing.

I have a feeling it's something to do with how they pronounce the 'L' sound in their language... In Thai it's the same as the L sound in English so we're OK... the 'R' sound however is a little different so Thai people have issues with pronouncing that.

Dad weight is pretty blah though right? I am not blessed with the best genes when it comes to storing fat. I am not obese, but not comfortable where I am at. I am now up at 5AM as it is the only time that I have to get in some exercise and eating better and only dropping like a pound a week. thinking about quitting this whole eating thing.
