Conley Officially a Jazzman

Our spacing? Great. .
lol. It was terrible. We hoisted tons of last second contested prayer 3's because nobody could get open. I saw Jazz struggling in every game against Houston's switching defense because Rudy could not score in the post against Tucker, Capella, Harden and others. Nobody cared about defending him outside the paint and we played 4 on 5 most of the time. No wonder we did better on offense when Favors was playing 5 and we had Jae or Ingles at 4.

Then why Jazz did better vs Houston with Favors at 5? I love Rudy, don't get me wrong, but he is playing in wrong era.

Don;t get me wrong people, I love Conley on the Jazz. But we traded wrong pieces and at wrong time. Had we dealt Exum, Rubio and a pick or two at trade deadline we would be much better.

To be honest, I'm sure it was that simple. Exum was injured after the deadline and was showing some signs of life. Most of us were actually against including Exum in the deal, so it's a hindsight sort of situation. Otherwise, Memphis was being called out by other organizations inquiring about Conley as being literally and criminally insane.

What do people expect? Those are the assets we have to give up in order for the Grizz to bite. At least one party will be upset about what they gave up .We simply were not in a good position for any trade talks. There is no players in which we can realistically put on a trade table that both we just as jazzfans will be happy to let go, while being good enough to raise other teams interests. So to get Conley, it is inevitable for us to overpay because we can't put together an equal and convincing package in which both parties will be happy with.

Except we didn't overpay. At all.

if conley has a good year, he will absolutely opt out as he should to go get one more overall big end of career payday like horford is doing. he'll get a 3-4 year deal at 25-30M per season. that's the scary part of this trade.
I'd say it's the scariest. But also scary is can he stay healthy? If not, he opts in next year and is a huge overpay and hindrance as far as future moves. I still am not sold the he wasn't the one who had it put out here he didn't want to play in Utah. And I do believe he will opt out next year if his season goes well. On the other hand, maybe he gets here and loves the city and the team. He will do well in Snyder's scheme imo. Just hope he stays healthy and Exum can get healthy enough to learn from him and be a part of the team.

Yet stats say we produced the most open shots per game of any team in the playoffs. So maybe you saw what you wanted when you wanted.

It's all a risk, for sure. But these sorts of deals do work (see George - OKC, etc.). It wouldn't surprise me if he opted out, but it could be to do something longer with Utah for more years, but slightly less money. I'm just happy we did SOMETHING for once resembling going for it.

I think how successful this trade will be is going to be determined by what we do or don’t do with Favors and Exum. Have you ever been given a prescription for an opioid, but the reason it has been prescribed is now resolved? Now, you’re a reasonable person, and you aren’t foolish enough to do that recreationally, and you know it’d be bad to take them “just because,” but now you’re walking around looking for a reason or excuse to take it? That’s pretty much where DL, the FO, and a contingent of Jazz fans seem to be regarding Favors and Exum — looking for a reason, against their better judgment, to keep them.

GREAT TRADE. On paper anyway. We got Conley without giving up Favors or Exum. The Jazz can still go out and grab one more. But more importantly, we finally have a PG that can hit an outside shot.

Time will tell. We are currently trash in terms of roster depth. And I don't think people appreciate the shortcomings of Mitchell + Conley as your backcourt. Both need the ball in their hands in order to be effective. And we also need an elite wing combo with great defense/athleticism in order to make up for that lack of size. So many upgrades are needed for us to be truly “contending”
