What's new

August 25: Enes Kanter & Turkey match is starting now.>Turkey - Montenegro < LIVE MATCH HERE:)

so we got harris, favors and kanter for deron who's contract was soon to be over. what a great deal! it will be even better in two or three years. what a steal, thanks koc! it's really exciting to be a jazz fan :)
Plus one more pick from Golden State.

Absolutely. He's nowhere near as bad as Boozer, at least not in these past 4 games. On the one play I'm sure you're alluding to (where Dragicevic was stuffed by Savas), he looked pretty much exactly like Boozer. It was terrible.

No one could be as bad as Boozer. At least Enes cares. Boozer never cared. All he was concerned was with getting his numbers. That being said Enes needs a ton of work on defense. Glad Jerry is no longer around or he would be coming down on Enes bad.

It would be a phenomenal deal if we KNEW that Dwill wouldnt resign. If someone were to tell me that Dwill would resign with Utah for 5 more years, would have I done the trade? At first one would probably still say yes, but we have to understand that wed have serious amounts of cap room with AKs expiration, Memos expiration; the development of Hayward would have also aided us. It is still too early, and it might always be difficult to tell whether this was the right trade to do; from what I can see though, things are looking mighty bright for the franchise. I mean Harris, Burks Hayward Favors Kanter, all top 12 picks?? Keep Sap as the 6th man and boy are we in for some good times if the players develop to anywhere near our expectations.

Just like we always saw him come down on Boozer. Listen, I'm as big a Jerry fan as there is, and maybe it's just me, but contrary to a lot of people's beliefs (including NBA talking heads), Jerry wasn't a good defensive coach. He loved to preach hard work, but his idea of good defense was to hit the other player as hard as you can.

Back to the topic at hand. With minimal coaching Enes looks like he could be a more than adequate defensive big. He's not as big as Marc Gasol, but I could see him being that type of defender.

true, true... but still... even if d-will would have resigned... kanter, favors, harris, gs pick (2012) and 3 millions cash >>> d-will. it's not even close. d-will is not this kind of a leader i want on this team, he has some character issues... it would be great, if we could resign both, kanter and favors, after their rookie contract will be over... and i do believe that kanter will stay a jazz player for his entire career...

did you see me comparing him with someone else, mr genius?Enes is enes, the guy hasnt played ball for 2 years, and he is getting better every day,0 points,0 rebounds to 8 points 10 rebounds(12 points 6 rebounds in yesterday) in 5 games.give me a break

Ok "genius" lets do math your way enes went from 0 and 0 to 12 and 6 in ONE game after not playing in two years. Ok follow me here. 4 years from now he will average 24 and 12 and at 6 years he will be a 48 and 24 guy OMG! and at year 8 he will average 96 and 48!!!!!! Holly ****! I love your way of thinking champ.

gasol might bother people a little bit more with his size (7-1) than kanter (6-11), but kanter seems to be a little more athletic and quicker than gasol. enes can guard the perimeter a little bit, too. while gasol might bother people a little bit more with his one on one man defense due to his length, i think kanter can be a little better help, team defender... but i like to comparison on the defensive end... i think kanter has similarities even on the offensive end, while gasol is more of a finesse player an not as powerfull as kanter. but gasol doesn't run the floor well..kanter seems to have more willigness and a higher motor. gasol seems sometimes like he would not care... but both are incredible players and gasol is a very good basketball player...

I've been watching the old YouTube clips of Kanter (the Nike game and Locke's breakdown) and the thing that impresses me is his ability to run and his form when he's shooting free throws. The guy has a really pretty shot for a big man. Those are the things that make him comparable to Malone (shoulder size, body fat %, ability to run the floor and a pretty jump shot...but he's still not really comparable to Malone. I'll wait 10 years before I say that :)) The Nike game didn't impress me tons cause it seemed like 90% of his points came from within 5 feet of the rim (and he wasn't playing with NBA big men.) It seems like thats what kind of shots he's getting in the euro tournament, just imagine how much better he'll be when he's got a decent jump shot. All the mechanics are there for him to be a good shooter (it might take him a few years, it took Malone a while to make the 15 footer consistently. Millsap too!)

his rebounding impressed me the most, i think it's already on an elite level... but true, those aspects of his game you mentioned are pretty good, too...

I suppose his rebounding is pretty good :) (but I think it'll be tougher in the NBA!)

right, so the fact that he has bull strength, top level rebounding ability, good touch around the rim and mid range game doesnt make any sense for a big man, i agree he is a garbage, cauz he couldnt score 50 in 10 min

I think Cyrone Torbin didn't mean by "garbage man" that Kanter IS garbage, but rather that he gets "garbage points". Those are mainly where a player gets the basket through a put-back, rather than through the initial shot. And not from a play being run for the player.

Well that's the scary thing, he does have serviceable jumper and is scoring at a good rate without even resorting to it. Al Jefferson, for instance, usually takes the easy way out and launches his low percentage push shot as his first option. Kanter likes contact too much to do that. He will get blocked from time to time, but is also going to draw twice as many fouls as Jefferson.

One of the things that Kanter well have to improve on is his explosiveness when going to the rim. He got a nice pass in the low block from #11 and couldn't get up quick enough or high enough to finish what should have been an easy dunk. He missed a couple of good passes that could have lead to shots for him also. His rebounding was as good as advertised as he was always at least in a pretty good spot to get the board both on the offensive and defensive ends. I also like the fact that he was out there from the middle of the 3rd all the way to the end. Seems like the coach is starting to trust him a little more on the court. Over 20 min for the first time.

Over all I like what he is going to bring to the Jazz. And have no problem with us drafting him at 3

That is a really good point. Look and what he is able to contribute to a team without even being the 3rd option on the floor ever. If he has teammates that are willing to look for him and get him the ball when he is in a good spot then he could really be a great contributer to the team.

To speak in his teammates defense, they did start to look for him toward the end of the game, but he too often wasn't where they wanted him to be. It seemed like there were a few good opportunities to anchor himself in the post where he decided to back away instead. Not sure if that's what he's supposed to do, but even Hedo looked hesitant to shoot on one occasion.

Every time he decided to post up, he was able to completely manhandle whoever was trying to hold his ground. It was pretty damn impressive.

Jefferson also plays against NBA players.
