The resistance to Bernie isn’t just dumb Americans being scurred of scurry words like “socialism.” It’s that Bernie is a lousy candidate. I’m worried that his angry ranting plays right into Trump’s hands. I’m worried he will alienate coalitions of people (like
@colton) that we need to win/hold onto to beat Trump, win the senate, and retain the House. It’s like all the lessons of 2018, “The Year Of The Moderate” have already been forgotten. I’m worried that his past comments about Cuba and the USSR will make easy ads for Trump. Finally, I’m not comfortable with “a revolution.” America doesn’t need that. We need to reform our institutions and update some of our programs to meet the needs of the 21st century. We don’t need to burn them down with a bunch of loud angry young men (history has proven that this rarely works out).
The mere fact that Bernie’s campaign leadership and fans are just as intolerant and obnoxious as Trump’s is off-putting to me. Suddenly, I’m not liberal enough for Bernie Bros who feel like they can take over our party. Suddenly
@Gameface is being attacked as if he were a Trumper. It’s seriously scary the similarities between how Trump took over the Republican Party in 2015-2016 and how Sanders is taking over the Democratic Party now. I think Sanders will win the nomination. I think the establishment is failing and the guardrails are breaking. How long lasting his victory will be I think depends on if he wins the general in 2020. Sadly, for the establishment to restore order, we may need 4 more years of Trump. Sigh
