Health & Fitness Thread

I am trying to figure out how to keep my body functioning better with all of my health issues. I have several food intolerances, but I have no interest in doing an elimination diet to figure them all out because I know there is no way that is going to be successful. So I decided to start slow, pick something to work on every month, and then add the next thing. Last month I chose to add more fruits and vegetables daily. My body has a difficult time dealing with fiber, so many fresh fruits and vegetables don't work. But I mostly figured out last month what works and what doesn't. (Oddly, I can eat raw cabbage but not raw carrots. That makes no sense as cabbage is typically harder on your system.)

This month I'm going without beef as it is apparently bad for inflammation problems. I love hamburgers and have at least one every week, so this will be a change. Hopefully it helps some.

I do not do well with diets or eating plans, so I'm making it relatively easy to make small changes. Hopefully helps a lot eventually.

Seems like a good approach. Good luck.

Post covid is now the longest time I've been lifting weights consistently.

I had been going for about 6 months straight pre-covid and I got up to about 200 lbs then lost like 10 lbs during covid.

Been going to the gym for about 16 months straight now and I'm 220.

Twice as much as @Archie Moses “8 months of heavy lifting.”

Damn, you lost weight during Covid? I've only heard stories of people gaining weight due to work from home restrictions and not getting out and about. That must have taken a lot of commitment to do that.. LOL ..

Good on ya.

When I'm less active my appetite drops. I only really gain weight when I'm trying to gain weight. Also for the start of the pandemic it was hard to actually get groceries, so I wasnt going crazy and eating everything.

I always cry while i interfere with myself....
I thought the doctor told you no more playing like that after you got that thing stuck u....never mind. Not family appropriate conversation.

Yeah eating less is a 'hard to achieve' secret behind losing weight... and it's just hard to not eat yummy food. It's easier to eat-exercise-eat-exercise, etc..

But if you eat less than you would normally, without changing anything else, you would lose weight.

If you make all your own meals it's fairly easy to eat at your maintenance calories or below. The issue most people run into is eating out or snacking on processed foods. You can eat out like once a week to maintain your social life, but be mindful of not eating the most calorie rich item

That's always my main advice for people looking to lose weight. Make all your own meals. Or cut out one thing in your diet that isn't positive. Like if you drink a daily soda, simply cutting that out and replacing it with a diet soda or water will probably lose you a pound or two over the course of a month. Add in a daily 30 minute walk and you are down another couple of pounds per month. It's al about having a consistent routine/life that you can easily add/subtract things to.

I get that can be super tough for some folks, especially depending on your lifestyle/work schedule.

Also never plan to lose a large amount of weight at once. You probably want to lose some portion of it, then go through a period where you keep a consistent weight or even gain a pound or two over the course of a month or two, then go back to your restricted path to lose weight so you don't absolutely tank your metabolism
