I think Cyrone Torbin didn't mean by "garbage man" that Kanter IS garbage, but rather that he gets "garbage points". Those are mainly where a player gets the basket through a put-back, rather than through the initial shot. And not from a play being run for the player.
Well that's the scary thing, he does have serviceable jumper and is scoring at a good rate without even resorting to it. Al Jefferson, for instance, usually takes the easy way out and launches his low percentage push shot as his first option. Kanter likes contact too much to do that. He will get blocked from time to time, but is also going to draw twice as many fouls as Jefferson.
