So, I'm just speaking of my own information, according to my own understanding. No gov authority, no agenda.
People are uneducated about genetic issues, lab research projects, and potential dangers coming out of either weaponized biological agents, or the way our authoritarian systems are as determined as Thriller or OB to hold the party line, at whatever cost.
People are also all too willing to get scared, herded, used, and manipulated for whatever reason, no matter who is behind it. Or to latch on to some damned political mischaracterization of any situation, and get excited about being the one telling the world what's what.
I said a few things earlier in this thread about some of the things being said about this coronavirus (Covid-19). Here's what was being said. It's spreading with a whole lot of asymptomatic carriers now that no one can track or evaluate.
OK, so for a research project to get funded, the grant applicant has to make it relevant and attractive to bureaucrats with political bearings somehow, who are in their bureaucratic seats because some political hack believes they will be compliant and helpful politically. Biological warfare applications get bureaucrats practically horny to approve second-rate projects with practically no logic or science involved. So, there's always that.
What would make a project interesting is some adjustment like a surface hook that can challenge or ---if they idea is a benevolent one----damage the virus's effectiveness. Imagine what the world would be like if we created, and released a flu virus that would compete in areas/niches that traditionally harbor flu virus and then annually spread out in human populations, if that new creation was less infective or competent in humans. We could displace more virulent flu/cold virus types with one that doesn't bother us so much. That would be interesting to me....
But what is interesting to some, is modifying something in the transmission/effectiveness biology for the worse. This would be wonderful, because Prince Phillip would no longer need to hope to become a deadly pathogen in his next incarnation to solve the world's population problem.
So there's the fear-monger's wet dream.
And here's the stupidity such stuff creates in conservative talk radio programs:
"Oh NO!!!!!! Here it is, this is the great pandemic engineered by our Satanist Elites!!!!! We're all gonna die!!!!! If you don't have a bunker in the wilderness like babe's, with positive air pressure to seal out the deadly virus floating in the breeze, there's no hope!!!!
Incredibly, the fear mongers are saying a virus that in most people is asymptomatic is spreading undetectably and impossible to track or stop.... and it's gonna kill us all.
Reality is, whatever people are carrying asymptomatically is as good as any vaccine we could produce. Apparently, the onset is slow, and only kills say 2.5% of those it infects, and that is because it progresses slowly towards the lungs where it can do lethal damage or lifelong damage. This means 97.5% of the world's population lives, and this is not going to kill us all. Not only that, but after this goes around once, it will simply become another old flu strain hanging around and affecting only people who don't want vaccinations or who are physical stressed or run down or malnourished.
This also means we can fight it with airborne tactics directly as soon a symptoms begin to appear, and stop it in our air passages, and mitigate its effects directly via aerosol medications.
There is also the possibility of carrying a personal sized inhaler, and taking a few deep breaths of it whenever you go in a public place and somebody sneezes nearby....
A vaccine loaded into an aerosol, like a lot of commercial aroma products. You have a little bottle you plug into the wall socket next to your bed, in the living room or TV/game room, and in the bathroom and kitchen...and one for each car you use....which continuously emits microsol with vaccine in the surfactant, or some disinfectant capable of attacking the virus chemically.
Ozone or chlorine, which I know a lot about, are reactive to everything, even a virus. Now, facts are always quantitative issues, and it would take some investigation to establish the necessary quantity required for effective disinfection under various conditions. And so also determine an acceptable level of application to the patient. Chlorine and ozone are so reactive on wet surfaces like tissues or pathogen surfaces they will damage lung surfaces as well as any cell or virus, but the damage is repairable. Severe cases of inhalation of chlorine are painful and might require hospital care, but the effects are fully repairable. Unless, of course, you don't die in the chlorine cloud before you can find some fresh air)
So the virus dies, and you live.

I ruined the Grand Plan for scaring the human race into accepting draconian worldwide epidemic-fighting authoritarian fake socialism, rounding up millions of citizens into thousands of concentration camps, in order to control the Great Phoney Pandemic of All Time.
People are riding off in their RVs to camp in national forest campsites, KOA campgrounds, or any little place to park along some rarely-traveled desert track. With Walmart Chorox and laundry detergent, and a few extra water bottles......

The FDA is has also issued a warrant for my arrest, suggesting that when apprehended I should be hung from the nearest lamp post or great speading RightWing-nut tree, or else committed to Thriller's interrogation classroom for torture, being forced to actually read his daily talking-point posts issued by Jason to the kiddies..... and if that bears no fruit I should then be stored in a straightjacket between the fruit jars and the wheat buckets in a Mormon basement until Jesus comes.....

Of course it could but will it? Summer tourist season is around the corner as is the Tokyo Olympics. They could spread the virus everywhere, but like Trump says, once the warmer weather hits, we won't be hearing about the Coronavirus any more.
Whew. I was worried. But based on Trump's knowledge of infectious disease and/or his record of leaning on reliable expert sources, I feel... well, I feel exactly the same. Zero credibility equals zero.
Closed factories and disrupted shipping lines in China are already affecting supply chains for global tech and automotive businesses that depend on China for parts or labor. Obviously tourism is taking a hit. Yes, there will be economic consequences. It's just a question of how big the impact is.
This is based upon known data, obviously, which represents probably 1/3 of the real impact. This is due to the fact that many cases are undiagnosed and untrackable.
