What's new

DL out… kinda?

We don’t know really. JZ may have had ideas and deals that DL passed on. There seemed to be some minor differences when JZ took a bigger role. Namely we actually used some second round picks on players instead of trading them for cash or taking some guy with no chance of playing nba basketball.
Wasn't JZ the one who called Doke "the best player available" when we drafted him last year? Whoever the new GM is, he gotta be a new guy with new vision and new ideas, not DL's sidekick

I think they likely have the new folks identified. I’m guessing Ainge will have a role. JZ better watch his back if that’s the case.

Or Shane Battier. DL is doing exactly what KOC at the end of his tenure. Not surprised since DL has been pretty quiet lately.
KOC was much older and had occupied the role for like 16-17 years, then hired DL a year before he left. DL is still young and very much intending on being in the game and will serve as an advisor until he gets another gig. DL leaves after like only 7 years as the head guy after he grabbed the #1 seed and after a new ownership group just took over. This isn’t early career (executive wise) GM deciding to ride off into the sunset. This is a guy in what essentially is an executive’s early prime.

Not terribly surprised, and I think it was time for DL to step aside. Im pretty skeptical of Zanik, though; I’m going to need some evidence that he’s not going to be more or less DL 2.0.

I will say I want absolutely no part of that rat bastard Ainge though.

They likely neutered him so he will participate in the offseason but isn’t calling the shots... he takes the Houston job or some other gig when it opens up.

Masai Ujiri - Jazz created a perfect opportunity to go after him. Young, energetic ownership group who is willing to make big splashes if they need to, plus two under 30 star players to build around. Clearly, Toronto and Washington are the two most likely landing spots for him. . . but the Jazz should target him and see what happens.
