Dunk contest

So it's Mitchell, Dennis Smith Jr., Larry Nance Jr., and who is the 4th guy again?

Edit: Victor Oladipo. So there are 3 guys who are about the same size and same type of athletes. Going to be interesting.
There will be a lot of people rooting for nance as his daddy is one of the best dunkers in NBA history.

I like the power rankings comment that only 4 rookies from the last 35 seasons have scored 40+ points two or more times. Jordan, Iverson, Griffin (who was actually in his second season like Ben Simmons). So, really there have only been 3 actual rookies to do it. NEAT!

Earlier this season I didn't want him to for a few reasons, 1 being I thought maybe he was one of those that are a "in game" dunker and not a dunk contest dunker but that may no longer be true.

Other reasons are purely selfish, like letting him rest and get a break from the long season, let him stay the Jazz' little secret, let him grow that chip on his shoulder by getting snubbed, keep him off the radar so people don't try to steal him away.... However all those aren't realistic and as I said just my personal hangups.

For him I am happy as he seemed genuinely excited and if it helps him get ROY even better.

OK, but one could argue by giving him more exposure it's great marketing for FA's to want to sign with the Jazz during the offseason.

I'd say let him do as much as he's comfortable and let the chips fall where they may.

He’s not going to ever go unnoticed by other teams GMs. This is the best you can hope for as a small market is that Donovan exceeds and does as well as possible here so he doesn’t feel like he’s constantly getting snubbed for the fact he does play here. Making the All Star team will be important in the coming years.

I also don’t think Donovan needs any chips on his shoulders, it isn’t his attitude. It’s like his answer when he goes into games against teams that passed on him in the draft if he goes in with a chip in those games, his answer is “that would be selfish of me to have that mindset.” Donovan is just one of those guys who has that “it” factor and was born to be a star.

I also have no doubt Donovan will have some great dunks and compete in the contest with some very flashy moments. He has the charisma, energy, and athleticism to win and look great in the dunk contest. He also knows how to make a dunk look mean by slamming it in extremly hard. I don’t care much for All Star weekend, but I’m excited to watch Donovan, and I think he’s very excited for the opportunity. I hope he tears up the rising stars challenge as well.

Oh I was meaning it as I used to feel this way, I do not any longer and agree there are far more pros than cons and you can't live in fear or "what if's".

Also if I hadn't already changed my mind, Archie is against it so that in of itself would've moved me to change my mind.

Also growing up my favorite dunker was also a 2 footed jumper, The Human Highlight Film, Dominique Wilkins. He was a better dunker IMO than Jordan and was robbed in CHI due to home court advantage.

*edit*
Also Oneye, I agree he has that flashy but yet quick and powerful finish at the rim, sorta similar to like 'Nique had, where it almost seems like he's punishing the rim with his throw downs.

This is a lot of exposure for him if he does well. I don't think it helps us on court at all. Might even hurt us a bit if he is focused on practicing for this. I want him to see that if he does great things he can have everything he wants right here.
Exactly.

Loved Dominique.
Another one of my favorites was Shawn kemp. I’m not certain but I seem to remember most of his dunks being off 2 feet.
