The name was used by people outside the church as a negative to describe people in the church. They then adopted the name. It served a purpose. Times change, not sure what the big deal is.

I do and I don't. I think it's kind of petty, but I actually understand why they want to get away from being Mormons and focus on being Christians.
He gave the direction to the youth in June during a youth fireside. He gave the direction to the women during women's session. I presume he'll probably do the same for the men, but thus far there haven't been any men's sessions since the original youth one. The next would be in April.
I don’t care that they want to use the full name. Right on
I just found the “major victory for Satan” to be silly melodrama. That’s all. Doesn’t mean it’s a big deal.

That seems way over the top. They actively marketed themselves at The Mormons for decades. Didn't 'Meet the Mormons' come out just a few years ago?

Well, he issued the challenge at women's conference, so it was a challenge specifically for them. It wasn't "no social media for you", just a challenge to stay off for 10 days to see what kind of changes it makes in your life. But of course this was the first conference without a priesthood session (they are alternating now between women's session and general priesthood meeting), so who knows if he would have given a similar challenge to the men in priesthood session. Or maybe he still will, next conference.
I love Pres. Nelson, but I tend to agree. Seemed a bit overly melodramatic to me as well. That being said, I also understand why the desire for a change.

We don’t call where the jazz play the delta center anymore, who cares. I know it’s not exactly the same thing. I just don’t see the problem. If they don’t want to be called Mormons so be it.

Yeah I agree, I didn't say there was any problem with them deciding what they want to be called.
I didn't watch Conference. I don't know anything about it.
I think Rod Meldrum should be called as an Apostle because he still tries to defend the basic claims of the Book of Mormon. If you don't believe in the Book of Mormon you're not a Mormon.

If one is not a heart lander, per se, does that have any bearing on whether or not they believe in the basic claims of The Book of Mormon?
