What's new

Game Thread: Utah @ BYU, Sat. 9/21 8:15pm MT, ESPN2

If only the Cougs had posted "No Stealing / No DUIs / No Naked Tomfoolery" on a placard in their locker room, this all could have been avoided.

Why would you need more experience before playing BYU? Don't the Utes see Van Noy type players every week now that they're in the Pac12?

I see what you did there.

Regardless of who Utah is about to face, I don't see how extra experience and game time for a young QB can be a bad thing only 2 weeks into a season.

In regards to your post: Yes, Whittingham downplayed the fact that Utah is facing the likes of Jamal Williams and Van Noy, but was he wrong? I think Williams and Van Noy are amazing players but Utah's schedule is now harder than it was in the MWC. Players of their caliber show up on Utah's radar each week. BYU fans act as if Utah has never seen the likes of Williams and Van Noy. What they (you) fail to realize is that they usually don't face those types of players when going up against BYU.

With BYU playing a tougher schedule now that they are Indy, as I Ute fan I don't see any reason to point out to BYU fan that Dres Anderson and Jake Murphy are super talented and a handful to deal with. I'm pretty sure BYU see's plenty of guys like that when playing the likes of Texas, Notre Dame, Florida State, etc.

1984 by Prince

I was on caffeine when I wrote this forgive me if it goes astray
But the traffic on I-15 is looking like a gameday
There were zoobies all around me and mini vans everywhere
They couldn't get a diet coke but didn't even seem to care

I see that Wilson's running wild on us
Oh no, what's the score
Oh well tonight we're gonna party like it's 1984

I was fasting when I wrote this forgive me if it gets all weird
To get into the stadium will I have to shave my beard?
If the game goes past midnight I guess I probably shouldn't stay
I might miss something awesome, but what would my bishop say?

It's another bomb to Anderson
The utes are running up the score
Oh well tonight we're gonna party like it's 1984

If you didn't come to win
Don't bother sitting in your seat
There's a Roscoe on the field
And jello at the Cougareat
Everyone say a prayer
We play well and don't get hurt
I'll be jamming
My "Quest for Perfection" shirt

We belong to Whittingham
It's 10 to 54
Oh well tonight we're gonna party like it's 1984

Say it one more time

Yeah we used to be the shizz
But LaVelle ain't here no more
Oh well tonight we're gonna party like it's 1984

1984

Never will forget

1984

Weird. I thought a lot of the BYU students had beards. At least Steve Young did/does (allegedly).

Apparently exceptions can be made, not sure if it's a doctors note or something like that about skin issues or shaving issues or something.

I believe they actually have to carry a beard card if they got permission.

I haven't seen many beards on campus, but I really don't spend much time there.

Colton.... you spend most of your life on campus. Care to enlighten us?

So, who get's Hadley's minutes?

My guess is Austen Jorgensen gets most of them, maybe some Tyler Beck.

Not sure who the best remaining ILB's BYU has. Anyone know?

I think it will be beck.

With unga, van noy, and fua, this should not be a huge loss as long as no one else gets hurt.

Frustrating though, and bad timing

If a regular non-athlete student had that Magnum PI mustache they would have been kicked out long ago.

Here on Jazzfanz we like to call that a "porn-stache".

Stinks that he's going to miss the game.

That is exactly correct. If you've got a medical issue such that you really need to have a beard, then you have to get a "beard card" which authorizes you to have a beard. Otherwise, no beards. So beards are not too common, but you do see them.

For what it's worth, that's one of the rules I would change if I were emperor of BYU. My understanding is that the rule was implemented back in the 60's or early 70's when having a beard was often a sign of rebellion, counter-culture, etc. But that's not at all the case in today's society.

And, for whatever reason, mustaches are just fine.
