I've never said that businesses only want to be efficient and profitable. I believe when it comes to business the customers and how we look after them is first and foremost the most important. I am in business, I know this very well.


Yes you try to make your business run efficiently so it is cost effective, but 'price' is not the only consideration when it comes to services, a level a care is also very important. Sometimes you do have to understand that people are people, and that's what counts at the end of the day. Never lose sight of that.

They are thinking of the customer numbnuts. Example, there are several flights from SLC to places in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming...those are not profitable flights. When you figure in fuel, labor, equipment, etc, those flights are running a loss. They have to make it up somehow.

Furthermore, if you're in business, you should know that you can't just look at what one place cites as profit, and take something away from it without looking at all the other numbers involved. There's just a lot of people that want it both ways, and aren't realistic or capable of understanding simple economics.

So what if someone ordered something from you. They came in to pick it up but you distributer had had not delivered it. You offered them a refund plus 1000$ and the item for free but they refused to leave your store until you gave them what you didn't have? Would you call the police? Are you responsible if after resisting to leave your business the police get physical with this person?

It's hard to compare because we're a much smaller company. I can tell you I've literally given stuff away just so we can get an issue resolved without involving the police.

It is not really a problem that often and it is the only way for airlines to make money. The other solution is to have the government subsidize them more(which I am opposed to). It works out well for most people. When you have flexibility to get off a flight what they offer you is usually worth it. I did it all the time when I traveled for work and got lots of free flights and hotel stays.

The local people working there are only authorized to offer up to a certain amount, after that they need permission to go higher.

Well they do because subsidies helped them exist. Otherwise we probably would not have airlines to the extent we have them today. Fortunately some people who could see the big picture better than you made it happen and the world is a better place because of it. You only make money because of the government so I guess you have no right to exist either.

Those numbers are very deceiving. There is a reason for the subsidies.

Even if they are true why would an airline run flights at a loss? They wouldn't they would stop flying to those locations that lose them money and focus on the ones that make money. This is how free market business works. Businesses do not lose money on things without any benefit to them.

If you get a job at Uber for example would you drive multiple people somewhere every day to a location and receive less money than it costs you in gas to get them there?

I wasn't saying they would run flights at a loss. I was saying they would make billions of dollars.

It's the same thing. You are selling something that you don't have. You hope to have it by the time the customer needs it but you may not.

No it would be like if they ordered something from one love and one love actually gave it to them (not your scenario where he didn't have it) and then one love tried to take it back from them.

Every government subsidizes their airlines.


Airlines funnel planes to hubs the hubs are where they typically overbook. There are so many delays and other problems flying that if hubs didnt overbook they might have planes that are almost empty because of missed connections. This allows airlines to also put you on the next flight if you missed your connection. Many people cancel their flights or buy flexible passes such as business people as well. Many many seats would go empty if they didnt overbook. Would you be willing to pay double for a ticket so that they are never overbooked? I would not be.

We don't, its terrible public policy, especially when all of our main carriers competition are either government owned or supported. Despite the efforts of Trump the goal of most governments is to increase the number of seats coming into their economy on a weekly basis, they have a demonstrable economic impact. (I can't remember the figures) It makes sense to run airlines at a loss in order to bring in more travellers.
