It’s hard times in Venezuela these days. The economy is in shambles, crime is spiraling, and the opposition is leading increasingly strident protests on the streets. To make matters worse, President Nicolás Maduro can’t even deal with the crisis from the comforts of the presidential palace.
Constitutionally, of course, Maduro has been able live in La Casona, a luxurious villa in the heart of the capital, since he was sworn in last year. The only problem: Almost a year after Maduro’s predecessor, Hugo Chávez, passed away, his three grown children—Maria Gabriela, Rosa Virginia and Hugo Jr.—are still living in the villa. Apparently, they have no intention of leaving.
The two daughters have allegedly converted La Casona into a social club for friends of the family. According to recent media reports, neighbors complain of “deafening” parties. Fast-food restaurants and catering agencies refuse to deliver to the mansion, allegedly, because the Chávez kids have stopped paying their bills. Even concert organizers are complaining; Chavez’s daughters allegedly force them to hand over dozens of free tickets so they can share them with their friends. (Both the country’s Information Ministry and the Chávez family were unavailable for comment.)
Imagine how much worse it would be with armed citizens. They would be murdering each other instead of peacefully protesting. Guns are bad.
Socialism is much better than a foreign country invading or running your state.
Yes, Europe is so much more dangerous with less guns. I feel scared everyday knowing that when I walk into a gas station no one is armed, and no one has robbed the place before. I'm really scared for my family. I'm thinking of leaving the bolt off the my door unlocked tonight. Gasp!
In a socialist or marxist state, the government will gun down idealistic students who want honest representative government and fair elections on the streets, and provide perks to all the kinds of thugs who are "useful" somehow to the honchos.

So, you don't see countries like Sweden, Norway, Germany, etc. as being socialist (I would agree they are not Marxist)? Or, have there been student shootings we have not heard about?
I agree that you can't use Europe as an argument for gun control; culture matters a lot. However, it is a least evidence you can have a safe, unarmed populace.
Hitler was a socialist, too.
No socialist government can last, because as Margaret Thatcher observed, sooner or later they run out of "other people's money" and they can't supply the basic needs of life, and will start to "thin the herd".

The Erfurt massacre was a school massacre that occurred on 26 April 2002 at the Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Erfurt, Germany. The gunman, 19-year-old expelled student Robert Steinhäuser, shot and killed 16 people; comprising 13 faculty members, two students, and one police officer, before committing suicide. One person was also wounded by a bullet fragment.
The Winnenden school shooting occurred on the morning of 11 March 2009 at a secondary school in Winnenden, Baden-Württemberg, in southwestern Germany, followed by a shootout at a car dealership in nearby Wendlingen.[1][5] The shooting spree resulted in 16 deaths, including the suicide of the perpetrator, 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer, who had graduated from the school one year earlier.[1] He also injured nine people during the incident.

Germany has 30 guns per 100 citizens; America has 88. In Germany it's much harder to get a gun license and to own multiple firearms, where in the US most gun owners have multiple weapons. As such, the gun owning density is probably similar.
I personally have pretty moderate views on gun control. When I'm talking to people who are totally anti-gun, I tend to take a fairly pro-gun stance, against most limitations. But when I'm talking to people who are total gun nuts, I find myself arguing in favor of mandatory background checks, etc.
That being said, I DO think that private gun ownership is one of the main reasons why something like the rise of the Nazi party and their blatant use of force against opposers could not/would not happen in the US. (Does that count as Godwinning the thread? I'm not sure.)
