What's new

Had to ask....

If I was a NOLA fan I'd want Simmons before Tatum or any of the Lakers young guys if AD decides he wants out as he's a jumpshot away from being a perennial all star, and Gentry's system would be about as good as it gets for maximising Simmons' strengths. Plus the LSU factor would be good too, might be able to fill a few more seats with that. They'd in all likelyhood probably be able to snatch Fultz and Zhaire Smith as well in a deal like that and shed some salary to potentially add another high quality wing, they could potentially sign another good 3pt shooting wing like Bogdanovic, Green, M.Morris, etc, and re-sign Mirotic to have a team that could potentially feature Jrue/Moore/one of those FAs/Mirotic/Simmons and just go balls to the wall every time down the court.

I don't really understand the deal from Philly's perspective though. Like, the entire premise around trading Simmons for something is because he doesn't really fit well with Embiid and Butler on the court together, so you go and trade for another guy that probably wouldn't fit all that well with Embiid and Butler? I get he's an All NBA talent but I think after the Cousins/AD experiment teams learned that AD is at his best at C and the Sixers already have an elite C in Embiid.

Sorry guys. Wasn't really trying to blow the Simmons' trumpet here. (Feels like there is a Kendall joke here..) More interested cause Zach threw out possible trades and I just wondered if this team got better with Simmons and whether the Sixers do with Mitchell.

I get that this wouldn't happen, and I also get that this would be a horrible trade for so many reasons for Jazz fans - especially as everyone is convinced they have found their man in the Don.

The 76ers priority should be Simmons not Embiid or Butler.
I agree with Butler and I think the Sixers would be wise to just accept that he is a sunk cost and let him go in the offseason, but Joel Embiid is quite clearly the most important piece for Philly. The dude is completely dominant inside the paint, there's a case to be made that he might be a better defender than Gobert is or at least on the same level (Gobert has better DRPM stats but Embiid's tracking numbers are superior), he's elite at drawing contact and fouling players out, and he can force defenses to respect him from deep and space the floor at times, and he's also a guy you can just dump it to and ask him to get you a bucket which is rare for Cs in the NBA (I would argue that not even AD could do that). He's also a willing passer out of the block.

The Sixers are a +12.2 per 100 with Embiid on the floor compared to Simmons who is only a +0.9 per 100. Butler is a +2.9 per 100. The only reason why you would prioritise Simmons over Embiid is if you think Embiid is going to break down physically, otherwise you take Embiid and let him carry you as far as he can take you. Outside of Giannis there aren't many players in the league who I would trade a 24 yr old Embiid for right now without really having to think whether it's the right move or not. I'm a big fan of Embiid and I think he's a MVP/top 5 talent in the league right now, whereas with Simmons he's a borderline all star now with one clear critical flaw in his game.

Like, I pause on a Simmons/Mitchell swap and would ultimately decide against it, but I would give Philly their choice of whoever they wanted to get Embiid before he even enters his prime for example. He's that good.

While Simmons would improve our defense offense would become absolute mess. Simmons already has issues clashing with Embiid who is kind of ok at stretching the floor. Imaging Simmons, Favors and Gobert on the floor at the same time. Disaster. Thanks but Simmons makes zero sense on our team as long as we have Gobert.

I fully believe Simmons will develop a jump shot. The few I've seen him take his mechanics aren't that bad and he is young. Athletically he is a beast and with proper coaching he will round out his game. That being said, I'd still take Mitchell over him. His personality fits our culture better and I think he will always be a better teammate and positive influence with his fellow players.
