Brand's contract goes through 12-13, so it's three more years.
Can't do "half of AK's contract" because he'd already be gone, replaced by Brand's MONSTROSITY of a contract. And you want to play 16, than 17, and finally 18 million dollars to play "15 minutes a night?" And then you deride the owner because it would be too risky? Seems to me to be too stupid, using that logic.
I'm not totally against the idea of it. I don't think it helps the Jazz beat the Lakers, which is the biggest hurdle at the moment.
KOC's favorite trading partner is Philly. Even if Brand isn't 100%, he'd only have to play 15 mins/per behind Millsap worst case. And Utah gets a guaranteed all-star in Turner. Turner/Matthews/CJ at the 2/3. I like that.
Eliminate Boozer's contract and Korver's. That's $16M in savings. Then find a way to only take back 1/2 of AK's salary in a trade at the deadline. That carves almost $25M off the books. Add back whatever it takes to re-sign Matthews and Fes. Sign D-Leaguers like Gaines and Jeffers to get to the 13-man limit. That should be enough to take on Brand's salary.
I'd definitely do this, but I doubt Greggy Boy would go for it. It's too risky.
