Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I get the feeling Ainge overplayed his hand. I just can’t shake it. I think he’s legit MJ nuts but you can’t will people into giving the best offer possible.
Nah... if we get into training camp and it isn't resolved we may have an issue. Nothing lost by waiting a few weeks and making NY sweat. I think we could do the Westbrook deal still... I don't think we lose any potential leverage until training camp when things get uncomfortable.

I don't see a way where NY can not make this trade. Whatever DA is asking NY almost has to do this. They have already been catering to DM- they have his best buddy backcourt mate. He is attending baseball games and he's been pumped up to all the knicks fans for quite a while now. They have to do this trade- the pressure is on the Knicks FO.

Enough to take it to the Knicks and tell them to beat the offer. If they protest, say, “what, you think your picks are gonna be more valuable?”
Here’s the other part: it’s legit competitive. You can go to NY and say with a straight face “I’m just telling you that if you pass up this opportunity, heads will roll. Your heads. So if you’re serious you need to beat this and if you’re not then I hope you enjoy watching Donovan on the Heat, in the playoffs, and from the cheap seats the next few years.”

Miami theoretically could get a 1st from Dallas for Lowry while taking on Bertans and sending either Powell or Kleber’s expiring salary our way.

Then somehow they get a 1st for a Strus/Vincent/two 2nds package? I’m not sure.

Herro + Jovic + salary filler from Dallas + 5 1sts + 3 pick swaps is something I’d do. We save something crazy like 15M in this deal too.

Or they send Strus/Vincent + their 28/29 2nds our way instead of Jovic if they can get a better 1st for him?

Exactly- DA also has the luxury of going into this deal knowing he has Ryans trust. The Gobert trade, should give DA all the autonomy to work this trade out however he needs to with Ryans complete support.

Look... I know I'm likely super on my own here... but the Heat picks in 27 and 29 if they got Donovan might be better than the Knicks picks in 27 and 29 if they get Donovan. I know its Miami but Butler is old... Lowry is old... I don't think its crazy, but also not likely. The early Knicks picks will obviously be better than the Heat picks. This is especially true if NY is trying to protect the picks somehow. I think Miami will have zero reservations in giving us 3 unprotected picks and 3 unprotected swaps... Then its Jovic/Yurtseven and whatever they get for Strus/Herro. Those guys should net two firsts somewhere.

I think its ambitious... I doubt they get a first for Lowry, but maybe. I think Strus would be useful in the potential Russ deal though... so you could get some firsts there.

Donovan may opt out in 2025 if he goes to Miami too you never know. Especially when Butler is past his prime.

Make Miami eat Bertans salary and keep Robinson to keep them from being able to make any moves in the near future with cap space.

Would a team send them a 1st for Jovic? Probably.

Herro + Strus + Vincent + salary filler from Dallas + 5 1sts + 3 pick swaps

I think Herro is more likely to be traded than Jovic. He has to land a couple decent firsts to make the deal decent.

I think if you called Dallas you could get a 1st for Lowry+Strus for Bertans and stuff.

If it becomes 6 firsts, Jovic, Yurt and 3 swaps (2 of which may be the only ones with value).

Jimmy makes a ton and is old and combustible. He goes and it gets a little dicey there.

What happens if NY just flat out says nevermind? Who outside the heat with a meh package is going to offer what Ainge seems to want? Is Donovan going to be happy coming back? What does that do to our tanking?
