The Heat picks unprotected are better than the Knicks picks if they are protected. That is the only way we get future upside. I'd say 23/25/27 all need to be unprotected... 29 can have top 4 protection if they must.

Yup. And that's the attitude we should have. Take a year with Donovan being "injured" like David Robinson and then pair him up with a top 4 draft pick this year plus a bunch of expiring contracts.

It’s not that black and white though. The Knicks top 6 protected is a faaaaar better pick than unprotected Heat picks. The Heat are an elite, well-run organization and I can’t imagine they are in the lottery in the next few years. That’s something the Knicks only aspire to.
