Whatever the excuse, he was wrong in leading a woman on for 8 years. Lance Bass said that he simply abstained from being in a relationship with anyone to protect his career. Jason could have/SHOULD HAVE broken up with his "girlfriend" after a few years. Go solo for a while, get another GF or a string of ladies; there's no shortage of women who want to be around NBA players. Or do what many actors and singers have done when they felt they had to hide their homosexuality in order to preserve their careers: get a GF for "window drssing" who knows what the situation is, one who will protect your secret, allow you to live your lifestyle, but be by your side at public functions. Outrageous, you say? I could give you a few examples of men who have specifically done that. What Jason did was DISHONEST. He's not the victim; Carolyn Moos is!
""Carolyn Moos, Jason Collins’ longtime girlfriend, said Tuesday that she never suspected the man she spent the better part of a decade with was gay — even when he called off their engagement in 2009.
“It’s not easy to understand. I had dreams of having children and having a husband, and I still have those dreams,” Moos told the Daily News, breaking her silence about Collins, the first active, openly gay athlete in American team sports to come out of the closet.
“Anger was a definite emotion that I had to work through,” she said, reflecting on how their relationship ended. “I think it would only be human to be angry about diminished dreams. Otherwise, I would think that you’re robotic.”"
Sorry, but Carolyn's chances of finding a husband, of having children are greatly diminished. Getting pregnant gets infinitely more difficult as women approach 40, and significantly more dangerous. Were she to meet someone right now, perhaps she has 1 or 2 children...if she manages to get pregnant. Or maybe she goes the IVF route if she has problems with fertility. In any case, Collins should be criticized for his actions and dishonesty with Ms. Moos.
