Keyonte is going to want over $30M/year if the shooting percentages and defense continue to hold up. He's going to point to Jalen Green and say he's a more effective player. Maybe something like 4 years and ~$130M.
I ran a fact check on ya, and yes, he was 9-9 last night.Think K had 9 free throws last night and made them all
An all starHow good is keyonte if present form holds
Orrr…At this point I'm hoping he agrees to a 5 year deal just short of the max.
This point about smallish, poor defensive guards being very much NOT en vogue is really important. The article that @Tremendous Upside posted yesterday lines up very well with other, more meaningful data points like the Jazz having to attach an asset to Sexton for Nurkic, that they had to buy out Clarkson. This is going to be a difficult negotiation because Key's camp can point to comparable that suggest he should get paid more, but at the same time the league has become weary of non-defenders. Basic numbers look good, but advanced numbers (while very much improved) do not love him. Hard to know what contract that means in the apron era.
I wonder where's Key's head is at. I think WK really wanted a deal and the relationship was soured when he didn't get. Key might want to chase a max contract, but personally I don't think he's done enough. Even if he keeps this up the whole season, I don't think he's a max guy.
If his current stats per 36 min hold up for the entire year- you might be surprised to know that his numbers compare not far off from Devin Booker/Kyrie, very similar to Damian Lillard, De'aaron Fox, and way ahead of Jalen Brunson and others that were late bloomers. There is still plenty of growth possible- like with Brunson, so let's keep an open mind and not put any ceiling on his potential yet...An all star

We did it once before with Mitchell. At this point I imagine Key will have a similar salary trajectory. It's a good problem to have, but what to pay a young defensively limited, offensively gifted guard is a big decision. This could be interesting.
I just did some per 36 min stat comparisons of Keyonte to the following players in their 3rd years: Damian Lillard, De'aaron Fox, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, Devin Booker. If Keyonte maintains current numbers for the whole year-- his overall stats compare very favorably to all of those players. Booker was about 1.5 points higher-- and D Mitchell about .5 points higher. Rebounds and assists, stocks matched all of them. What might surprise you is that TS% (which factors in 2 pt %, 3 pt%, and FT attempts/ %) beats ALL of them. He is sitting at .597 right now, and everyone else I listed was at or below .561.
