Depends on the fan.I'm having a hard time believing that the "we should have sympathy for drug addicts" noise coming from BYU fans applies to people that don't attend BYU. I'm having a hard time believing that y'all wouldn't be much more critical than Utes fans are being if the shoe was on the other foot.
Think he is saying that despite how different BYU tries to appear, the people who attend and run the school are just as prone to the pitfalls of life despite how perfect and holy they may try (or appear to try) to come off.
You guys have no clue what you're talking about. You do realize the CIA/FBI recruit Mormons(who happen to be BYU students/grads most of the time) disproportionately because they are not as susceptible to outside influences, right?
Depends on the fan.
I'm a byu fan and I would not be talking **** if it was a ute player.
When Wilson got busted for the drinking thing I didn't say a word and thought it was no big deal.
Part of the reason this is being talked about so much is because it's a byu player and that makes it a much bigger deal.
Hearing about this type of thing at other schools would be unspectacular and much more meh...... also, hall is particularly hated and that makes it even more fun for ute fans. (Rightly so)
If the same thing happened to Kyle van noy then ute fans would still make fun and talk ****, but a lot less.
Link?
I have heard this before, never seen any verifiable proof of it.
Have to kill you bro, and don't want that.
You'd be the exception to the rule then. If it was Alex Smith getting pinched at a Best Buy for shop lifting and coke possession, the very same people who are tripping over themselves to preach mercy for Max Hall are the same people who would be KILLING Alex for his transgressions.
We can talk about how "different" BYU is, but at least in regards to current and former players, I don't see it. 2am fist fights with customers at Betos, Gas stealing scams, under age drinking, shoplifting in order to score more cash for coke. Hell, the recent rap sheet alone tells me that BYU should be considered a P5 program.
And for the record, had Max not professed hatred in his heart for the classless, lack of morals Ute fans, there wouldn't be nearly the uproar that there is right now. He's reaping what he has sewn. The real victims here are his wife and kids. Max wasn't some poor soul reaching out for help. If he gets help now, it won't be because he went looking for it, it will be because a judge demands it.
Mormon urban legends are so much fun to debunk, mainly because so many people latch onto them as reasons for their faith, or at least faith-building stories that are ultimately lies. I have heard people use obvious mormon urban legends in testimony meeting, and had a bishop once tell me one to show that the Lord works in mysterious ways.
The attitude I'm complaining about appears to me to be institutional. I have no problem believing that there are fans who are not okay with it, and it's even possible that those fans are in the majority, but I still see a tremendous amount of this behavior.
