What's new

Never Trump

Our very own Mike Lee is also supporting a policy of not allowing Hillary to appoint a single Supreme Court justice, under the theory that she'd appoint ones inclined to support the Democratic policy agenda (and AS IF a Republican president would nominate justices based solely on their legal bonafides )

Unfortunately, I think we'll see a repeat, even doubling down, of the Republican strategy vs. Obama--obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. Republicans will reason that IF they only hold out for 4 more years, they can defeat Hillary in 2020, which is what they reasoned in 2008 and 2012 with regards to Obama. Thus we will have had 12 years of Republican obstructionism in Congress by 2020. The US needs two parties each with a serious committment to governing and finding solutions to pressing issues requiring some degree of cooperation and compromise. What has happened the last 8 years, and will likely occur over the next 4 years, is very discouraging and can't help but make cynics of us all.

Over the last 8 years, Republicans have made it clear that they have no intention to govern or act in good faith with regards to a Democratic President. They could have, for example, come to the table with a serious reform proposal for the Affordable Care Act, but instead for 8 years they've pandered to the fanatics in their base by voting time and time again to repeal it. They still have yet to articulate a realistic, serious proposal that would keep levels of coverage anywhere near where they have risen under ACA.

I would, further, take odds on a bet that at some point, Republicans will gin up some reason to try to impeach Hillary, should she win. Those of us support a progressive policy agenda can only hope that the Democrats reclaim control of the Senate, particularly, if past trends hold, Republicans make gains in the mid-term elections, then she'll have at least two years to try to get something done.

God, I hate politics.

I think we need more La Raza judges to. Racists that want the USA turned back over to Mexico should fill the Supreme Court.

Mike Lee an the republicans are right in there attempts to foil democrats trying to destroy this country through massive debt, immigration policy, infiltrating churches an taking away religious freedom, EPA pushing business to Mexico an China, loading the Supreme Court with racist crackpots, an Obama fueling racialist tensions an getting cops killed. They are tryin to cause destruction from the inside. The democrats are a Trojan Horse an I can not respect anybody that does not do everything in there power to stop them.

You're a troll, right? (God I hope so, for your sake.)

Wow, early results have to worry Clinton.

Trump is very competitive/winning across the board. FL, NH, VA, MI, OH, NC, PA, WI...

I'm surprised that at this stage it looks this way. Stunned.

If he takes even some of those states. Let's say FL, OH, MI and NH that really hurts Clinton.

Far from over but I thought it would be a slaughter in Clintons favor. Very much not the case.

I thought the large latino turnout would be the nail in the coffin.

I haven't been this upset in a long time.

OK Trump, drain the swamp. If you can do that you're worth something. If all you do is jump in and get dirty, all the while pandering to the least educated of us, well, you'll be the worst President since U.S. Grant. But you know what, we survived him and we'll survive you too. You can't take my nation from me.

America will be great despite Trump, not because of him.

In my opinion, in order to support Trump a person has to look past his overwhelming approval from White Nationalists. For me that is enough reason that if I found out Hillary was a serial killer I'd still vote for her over Trump.

I'm not saying Trump himself is a White Nationalist. I'm not saying Trump is racist. I'm not saying any single Trump supporter is racist. But Trump is seen by White Nationalists as the candidate that best represents their views. I don't think they've ever had a main-stream candidate they like better since before the Civil War.

So to support him you have to be okay with the fact that White Nationalists are on your team. It's as simple as that. They have a seat at the table in the Trump camp. They are his base. Without racists Trump has no base.

So I'm assuming you went on a similar tirade when the Black Panthers supported Obama, right?

Maybe it should be noted that I didn't vote for Obama either time.

What happened? Obviously the polls so many depended on failed at an unprecedented level. Trump is the president elect. Never thought I’d type those words. The poll aggregators can now analyze where and how they went wrong and try to placate us with their excuses.

On a basic level, though, why Trump won is clear. The final numbers are not yet fully counted, but Trump will end up with about the same number of votes as McCain lost with in 2008 (about 60 million), whereas Clinton is falling almost 10 million votes behind Obama’s 2008 total (close to 70 million). The Obama coalition did not come anywhere close to turning out for Clinton.

Clinton was a fatally flawed, historically unpopular and uncharismatic candidate. Despite the specter of a Trump presidency, at least ten million potential supporters stayed home rather than cast their vote for Clinton. That’s her lasting legacy and the ultimate reason she lost.

I just wanna say to all those Republicans and or LDS who didnt vote for Trump #respect.

And to Orrin Hatch. **** you you out of touch career dirtbag.

The Demeocrats, Republicans, and establisment have no one to blame but themselves over this. You can also thank the rise of social media. How long did they think the people who keep putting up with their BS. Obviously Trump is not the ideal guy for this, but he captured a movement.

This is a good sign, in that it proves we cant force change, and demand accountability now. No more feeling hopeless and subservient to the elite.

I think you meant "can" force change and I agree. If nothing else, this will give hope to future third party candidates (and outsiders), even if Trump wasn't one.

Why does this post remind me of Trump's claim that he was always against the war in Iraq?

I voted for McCain and I voted 3rd party the second time.

I don't like Trump. He's a special kind of Jackass. I'm not a Democrat.

I'm trying my best to be gracious today. But you're still being a dick.

Lol, ya right.

A rich white dude won the election. What personifies the Establishment/government? rich white dudes.
And a third party candidate didn't win a single state. In 4 years another republican or democrat will win the election. and 4 years after that. and 4 years after that.....
