We cant just cherry pick the best player who was picked after him and cry about it.

One quick aside. I think they got some blowback from the weird messaging they had with Taylor so maybe tried to spin things differently with Cody. Maybe they really were over the moon about him. The draft is hard so if he sucks I won't kill them for that. The idea of a do it all wing is at least a smart thing to try and get there I guess. I am still scarred from the Udoka pick where everything was wrong immediately... so I lowered the bar lol. I really wanted Carter there and it would have been kind of perfect as he could chill for a few months and recover from his injury while we sift through other prospects. Topic kinda makes sense for the same reasons. I wouldn't have taken Mccain that early. Knecht would have been in the mix... I think the process was fine and sometimes you just miss.

Not giving up on Cody... I'm going to hold firm for at least 12-15 months before making a definitive judgement. Also will acknowledge it looks rough right now.
Accepting (even embracing) failure is how I cope. I now have 0 expectations or hope for Cody, but he has a lot of time to figure it out. If he does figure it out at all, it will be all gravy for me.

That being said, my strong doubts in Cody was probably my strongest take of draft season and it’s looking worse than even I thought so that’s bad.

If Cody was jacked out of his mind, it wouldn't change the fact that his handle is awful, he's slow as hell, he can't shoot, and he has an extremely low motor. He is skinny, skinner than basically anyone that has walked into the NBA, but he's got so many problems beyond that. Like if you watch that game last night, his "physicality" was the best part of his game. That's how bad everything else looks.

In hindsight, we should not have drafted a player for his physical tools and all around game when his physical tools are bad and he is notoriously a do nothing player.

I disagree with this. I think his handle is fine. He's got good balance and body control, drives with a low enough center of gravity. If he turns the ball over, it's because he's aimlessly wandering into traffic. He's also got good touch on his floater and rim finishes and seems to be making his FTs pretty well. He doesn't have confidence to really drive hard to the rim, and I think that comes from lacking strength and not dealing with NBA length and physicality. He doesn't have much burst, but lots of guys don't have much burst.

Didn’t require hindsight.

Yeah I had question marks, but I just trusted the consensus on him after not looking into him too much. Did not think he would fall so didn't bother to look into him the same way as others. Just looking at the things we're saying about him though.....red flags everywhere. He's supposed to be an all around wing? People have been saying he's a do nothing player since HS. His shooting is a concern? We should have known that. His indicators were not good, basically the same as someone like Collier.

It's almost like the most obvious concern (his weight) absolved him of the other valid criticisms which should have also been obvious.

Yeah I can't get behind this. It's not a lack of confidence that's keeping him from the hoop, it's lack of ability to get there. He has no wiggle, no burst, no craft with his handle. Reason why he's shooting floaters is because his man is always between himself and the rim because he can't beat him. That's also why Jordan pushoff was his most effective move. Couldn't dribble past anyone but he could give them a forearm shiver and get away with it. When he can actually get to the rim he's good at foul baiting and he does have good touch around the hoop. The problem is he can't get there.

Yes he can dribble in a straight line, so if he gets a good pick he can make it all the way to the rim or beat a close, but he's still slow as hell. His ball handling is better than someone like Taylor Hendricks, but that's not saying much.
