If you don't know if Gordon is leaving, I like the move to hold onto him and be confident in your team's appeal in order to extend him.
If you trade him away one year before the contract is up, you're basically telling the rest of the team you're not confident in your team's ability to compete for unrestricted free agents. Which will make others think if the team is ever gonna be a contender, as management will flip stars for assets whenever a contract year is coming.
If he's indicated he's leaving anyways, you trade him and communicate it like this to the team. Not to the fanbase. Someone in the team is gonna talk anyways to the media/fanbase about Gordon being unhappy.
