The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Wembys recovery is elite. He went right, offensive guy went left and was 2 steps ahead for the layup. Wemby still blocked it. Crazy

I wonder if SAS plans to play Wemby that much on the perimeter on both ends. I get that they dont want him wrestling the bigs and he is a menace on help defense outside with those super long arms, but you lose a lot on the rebounding and paint protection if you play him almost exclusively outside.

He looked better and way more NBA ready in that game than he did in the SL though.

Wemby's not a natural rebounder, his first instinct is clearly to leak when he's defending on the perimeter and a shot goes up. Seemed to do it every single time in this game. You can kind of understand that he likes to have a "head start" - he's so incredibly tall it's affecting his straight line speed a bit (sure he's incredibly athletic for his size, but you can't fool physics), and leaking removes the need to do so many hard accelerations per game on fast breaks. When you're that gigantic, it all adds up.

But yeah... deciding what position he's going to defend is going to be a problem for the Spurs when the real games start. It'll also be interesting to see what kinds of strategies other teams utilize to neutralize his defensive impact. I presume everyone will try to drag him outside - particularly as it's apparent that he's not that likely to venture back into the paint to challenge shots from the weak side, as said above.

He leaked because it was their scheme. Its not at all how he played with Metropolitan.

He lead the french league by a hefty margin in rebounds and blocks and was a menace in the paint defensively.

Didn't know where to put this. Another reason why i love Mike a lot as a player.

I couldn't stop looking at his shoes. Those things are unreal.

Wemby's feet are so long and narrow that they look like a horrific injury waiting to happen. I don't understand how they can take the forces involved in NBA basketball.

You can say that about nearly any NBA player. These guys are elite athletes. We've never seen anyone as agile as Victor. He's not moving like Shawn Bradley out there.

Check out the video by jimmyhighroller. Bigs like Wemby generally fight uphill battles against injury, regardless of their athletics, and sometimes even because of it. I hope he avoids it but the odds are not in his favor.

But we've never seen anyone as agile at Wemby's size. That's my point. He doesnt lumber. His strides look smooth as a guy who is 6'6. Obviously he is freakish, but when you watch him, it doesnt look like it doesnt make sense. He seems very natural. If any of that makes sense.

That’s certainly impressive.

I dont think log said bigs get hurt because they are lumbering or because they arent agile. I think was saying its because they are big. In fact i could see agility increasing the injury risk. If you are stationary then it would seem like less chance of getting hurt than someone running all over the place and leaving their feet alot.

I think coordination is a big part of getting hurt/not hurt.
