The *OFFICIAL* Russia Is About To Invade Ukraine Thread

Ukraine just invaded Russia.

The Ukrainian invasion into Russia is getting crazy. The Ukrainian army has taken control of over 150 square miles of Russia.

Yesterday was the first day in months that Russia made no progress in taking Ukrainian territory. The Russian army is completely stunned. The overwhelming majority of their troops and weapons of war are in useless empty fields in Eastern Ukraine while the Ukrainian Army is pushing into Russia. Social media is full of Russian people posting about the Ukrainian invasion now over 40km into Russia and crying for Putin to help them.

Russia's "taking of territory" is literally measured in thousands of soldier's lives per square meter, not kilometer, per meter.

Russia throws tens of thousands of lives away for absolutely miniscule gains.

Mostly agree with you except that in the cases of the bloodiest battles, the throwing away tens of thousands of lives is also the gain. The lives that are being thrown away are either ethnic groups Putin perceives as a potential threat, or a class of people Putin perceives as a potential threat, prisoners that costs Russia money to house/feed, or foreign nationals they can pay to fight. Those lives lost aren't a cost, but an additional thing gained.

That isn't to say Putin sees all of his soldiers that way. The soldiers in Kursk that Ukraine is now rolling through are much higher value, softer, non-battle hardened Russians who have been thus far protected via stationing in areas that were supposed to be safe from attack. The Kursk offensive is a wild changing of the game. Ukraine has already captured and blown up the main natural gas terminal for the pipeline feeding natural gas to Europe. Orban's Hungary was the only country still making heavy use of that natural gas, but not anymore.

The Ukrainians are also only about 20km away from a massive nuclear power plant that powers roughly half of all Russia's iron and steel production.

Unfortunately your article is wishful thinking.

The people of Russia overwhelmingly support the war by every metric I've seen, and they blame the military for letting Putin down in Kursk. In the pockets of the country where discontent seems possible, all fighting age men are being rounded up and sent to the front lines in Ukraine where they become no longer a problem.

It has been 6 days since the attack in the above video and now the numbers of casualties is starting to emerge. Right after the attack I saw estimates as high as a thousand Russians killed, which I immediately thought was ridiculous. Now Russia has said that 96 were killed. Now I'm thinking the earlier number wasn't so crazy. There were 14 trucks full of soldiers that sustained enough damage to make them immobile. The total convoy was a hundred or so vehicles. The Institute for the Study of War, a fairly reliable third party source, believes the number killed was somewhere between 300 and 400 in that one strike.

Every one of them murdered by Putin. He must be so happy.

Must be because it just happened again. A second convoy filled with Russians was just hit with the same way. The Russian mil-bloggers are demanding the head of whomever sent this second convoy. For the first one they credit the Ukrainians but in this one they think all the blame belongs on a Russian commander.

“Many in Kursk blame the government and state media for keeping them in the dark in the face of mortal danger, with outraged residents sharing messages on social media. “I don’t even know who I hate more now: the Ukrainian army that captured our land or our government that allowed that to happen,” Nelli Tikhonova wrote on a Kursk group at the VKontakte website.

On Tuesday evening, when Ukrainian troops were already in Sudzha, Channel One news claimed the Russian army had “prevented the violation of the border”.

Good news

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said on Monday that Israel had accepted a Biden administration proposal to bridge some remaining differences with Hamas on a cease-fire deal

Wrong thread, and Israel has never, for 75 years, been the party who wouldn't sign a peace deal with the leadership of the occupied territories. It is the other side who will not give up their 'death to all Jews' position.

MOSCOW, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Ukraine attacked Moscow on Wednesday with at least 11 drones shot down by air defences in what Russian officials said was one of the biggest drone strikes on the capital since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022.

That sucks. Maybe Russia should just pack up and go home.

Good idea!

Thousands of Russian troops face being cut off in what would be a major military embarrassment for Vladimir Putin's generals.

Russia's army is struggling to contain a daring and ambitious Ukrainian attack that has seized so far around 483 square miles of territory, along with 92 settlements.
