What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Conley >>> JLo

This is exactly the sentiment I just don't get. If we had a chance to get Russell, we should take it 100% over Conley. Why?

- Russell, even at a max, would make at least $5 million less per year the next two years than Conley
- Conley costs us more than just contract. So it would be Russell PLUS at least one 1st rounder vs just Conley
- Age - Russell is 9 years younger than Conley. That's a pretty big deal.
- Russell and Donovan are close. Conley's own people said he didn't want Utah. If we trade for Conley, he doesn't have a choice and might be unhappy. If Russell signs here, it means he wants to be here.

Is Conley slightly better than Russell right now? Sure, I'll give you that. It's marginal, but whatever. But if we got Russell, every single Utah Jazz fan should celebrate. There should be no naysayers. There should be zero negativity. Signing D'Angelo Russell would be the most impressive free agent signing in the history of the franchise.

Seriously who would be upset with Bev and Caruso? That would be sweet as ****.

I’m not sure who that would leave for us at the 4. Green came to mind. But I’d prefer Bobby Portis who I think has massive upside.
Addressing the four is the most important thing this franchise could do since the emergence of Gobert. I’m sick of this revolving door of players that either aren’t good or aren’t 4s.

We have two great ball handlers. We need a 4. If we can get a 4 that can make plays then halle****inglujah.

We need a starting and closing caliber 4. Priority 1 by a mile.

D-Lo would be a great fit here. He can create for himself and others. He takes some pressure off of Mitchell. He is very young still and is a solid shooter. 37% from 3 on 8 attempts per game is great. Plus he shot 40% on wide open 3s and 50% in the playoffs, which our system creates a lot of.
He can take shots.

Idk how much he can actually create. A lot of his assist are just due to having the ball a lot.

Conley is A LOT better than D-Lo who is incredibly inefficient, soft, and doesn’t D up.

D-Lo’s only advantages are he’s younger and taller. He is not a better basketball player and it’s not close.

I'd say PG is the much bigger position of need, but it doesn't really matter either way. You just take the best non center you can get regardless of position

Mitchell alone is much closer to addressing the skills that the 1 provides than anything the Jazz currently have in addressing the skills that the 4 provides.

I was watching Dante’s highlights of this season. It reminded me of George Costanza: ‘if you take everything I’ve accomplished in my life and condense it to one day, it looks decent’.
Or in Dante’s case: ‘ if you take everything I’ve accomplished this season and condense it to a 5 minute highlights clip, it looks decent’.
Against my better judgement I still have a secret hope he will turn into something decent.

I really do think Exum was on the verge of a breakout season before he injury.

I'm buying Exum stock now that everyone hates because I think he's now underrated after being overrated for years.

Your reasons are not as conclusive as you think. I’ll give you the acquisition price but...

Conley is at least 5M better than Russell. My guess is Exum would be in the deal anyway so since we ditch some ded money they are equally paid.

Russell’s contract will be risky... I’d rather have a shorter contract personally. He’s inefficient and we have a young inefficient guard... they may be buds today but working together may not be ideal... I couldn’t work with my best bros. Also his defense is pretty much ***.

Then we’d either have to make the contract toxic so they don’t match, work out a sign and trade where we give something up, or pray that they land two max free agents. So... basically it ain’t happening.

So yeah if you give me the do-over I’d gladly forego free agency and have Conley.

Conley is a much better player and has had playoff success... he’s a guy I could see playing in the finals. Russell has a chucker empty calories feel I can’t shake. If the choice was Russell or run it back... I’ll take Russell. I think there is like a 5%-10% chance he becomes unrestricted.

why you ask ??

1 - usage rate for D-Lo is ridiculous. We don't need another high volume dude next to Donovan. D-Lo doesn't get to the free throw line or really create that much.

I mean if he's all we could get, ok but i would hope he'd be playing off Donovan as a shooter primarily. Conley brings the whole package.
