[Jones]BREAKING: Jazz willing to engage Celtics in S&T talks: But Gordon Hayward must agree

I'm just saying, Jae Crowder is pretty darn good. He's on an absolutely great multi-year contract.

If you think a lottery protected first is gonna get that done, then you're nuts.

We'll see how much he wants out. Don't think it'll be a situation where they keep him all year. At least it should be an uncomfortable situation for Haywood fitting in there, which is cool.

Haywood himself also has solid cancer potential, with his teammates seeing how much they ripped up the team to fit him and his big fat salary onto the roster.

It won't happen. There is literally no reason for them to. It's over, we lost.

Boston gets something for nothing. Ainge loves his assets. I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't take a second round pick from the Jazz based on what amounts to extra paperwork. For the Jazz, a little cap flexibility is worth more than another late pick like Willams-Goss. If they want more than that. . . they can pound sand. But I'd still try to get it done.

I obviously had my hands on bad info, or had confused myself somewhere along the way.

I appreciate this, and wish we could all do this.

I have to say though, you're doing the same thing you ripped Cy on. Post bad info, blame it on possession of bad info. You're a really good poster, and usually more consistent than this. It's fine to make mistakes, don't need to tip on people when they make the same ones that you do.

If this post came from someone like mellow, then I'd probably be torn up with shame. I'll consider the finger wag in your message. I hope you're looking at it, too.

There were media reports flying every direction that Boston had it's work cut out for it to make space for Haywood's contract. Those reports included salary breakdowns, etc. Now everybody is telling me that they had to save a little over $3M on a Bradley trade and everything is good?

ciao

Some form of Favors/Crowder swap now would make a lot more sense. Boston has no frontcourt and a glut of 3's.

Why do people want to trade Favors. Is Crowder better than a healthy Favors? And why are people such whimps in regards to dealing with Boston. Whether they need money or not, Crowder isn't going to be happy playing for Boston now. But I still don't understand the money thing, their cap situation. All the reports I saw said they needed to unload people to sign Hayward. For instance, they renounced Olynyk and now they traded Bradley -- so does that mean they're set. Why trade Bradley instead of Crowder. This all doesn't make sense to me.

Doesn't make sense because you refused to listen/read what others were saying, as this has been discussed repeatedly. Bradley will be an unrestricted free agent in a year that was going to cost a lot to retain. Good player, but probably not worth keeping for what he would cost next year.

Crowder is also a good player, but on a very cheap deal for 3 more years. Smart is an ok player who will be a restricted free agent in a year. He's the guy they should have dealt over Bradley, but maybe they just couldn't find the right trade.

Anyway, there were many options for the Celtics, including trading Bradley for a player that cost just enough less that it made the Haywood signing possible.
Utah never had any kind of leverage here. We needed to make a fair offer on Crowder and hope for the best, but Crowder being the best asset of the 3, wasn't going to be given away.

can this still happen? do they have to get rid of crowder after bradley trade?

No. I would assume they wait on Crowder now. They see if they can make it work with him or they look to get depth by trading him. Or they try to package him with picks to get another star. They were rumored to be interested in Marc Gasol.

Offer to do the S&T with Hayward and a 2nd round pick going to Boston (throw in NWG if Ainge plays hardball) and a non-guaranteed contract or Rozier coming back to Utah. Make a fair offer for Crowder, but walk away from that deal if they hold out. Doesn't have any impact on the S&T deal. Do that separately.

Keep Favors. Jazz won't get better value than a healthy Favors could give them. Might as well roll that dice. Gobert, Favors, Hood, Mitchell and Rubio starting. JJ, Jingles and Exum lead the bench unit. Pick up a couple of cheap one year vets (or young guys looking to prove themselves.) Roll with that and be ready to jump on any deals that come up.

They got Morris plus in today's NBA Crowder and Tatum can play some 4. Theis was also signed who is a 4. Zizic has not looked great in summer league but possibly play him at C with Horford at 4.

BTW their great big Euro hope has looked like **** so far in SL. They might still need to balance their roster.

Yeah, lol. Everyone hype that dude up and he doesnt look any better than Tony Bradley and that's with Bradley being a year younger. Zizic is still pretty young though and could improve a lot once he gets use to NBA game.

I guess they are playing Hayward at the two now. I think they did this deal with trading Crowder in mind.

Hayward was going to push crowder down to the four. With Morris now on board he plays the 4 then they have crowder brown and Tatum that all need some playing time at those spots. Crowders value might decline if he is a malcontent and I don't see him taking a bench role well.

I wonder if we offered a lotto protected first. Now that it doesn't have to be a salary dump they may use crowder to fill another hole... it opens up a lot of options for them.

The downgrade from Bradley to Morris is significant. Pretty clear an asset retention move as Bradley is a FA. I hope doubts are creeping in Haywards mind. They could have done the warriors thing and pay through the nose for top talent but are clearly moving the line... I hope IT isn't ready to start the season and this trade bites them in the ***.
