What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Any scenario where we bring Favors back is, at best, a marginal upgrade. I know the Favors issue has been somewhat polarizing to people, in that they only see it as black and white, but having Favors precludes any legitimate changes. Favors and Rozier? Great. That’s like paying an additional 30% to move up two rows at Usana. Yeah, you’re seats are “better.” Hooray for upgrades via technicality.
That’s if you actually end up moving up two rows in the end.

Favors in a S&T to a team over the cap could be a nice move if you can get him to sign a deal with more years and substantially less per-year. A win-now team that needs a good modern NBA 5 could maybe send a pick, prospect, or decent player?

-Milwaukee (if they lose Lopez and Mirotic)
-Charlotte
-GS (if they lose one of their guys)
-Clippers (Gallinari: they take back substantially less money and could open another max slot while retaining a good piece)
-Lakers (who knows WTF they’re doing?)
-Dallas

Just spitballing. In any case, I’m not picking up Favors’ option. I’m either getting him on a value deal more commensurate his role on this team (where he becomes a real asset), or I’m letting him go in some form or fashion. Pretty simple.

I could even get on board with DL opening up cap space, chasing unrestricted FAs and striking out, then putting a handful of offers out on restricted guys and getting them matched, then saying he misread the market and spending 15M or so on guys that are solid and can help... and then taking on a bad contract or two for 1st round picks... as that is the way we will get almost all of our top talent. Realizing it is a low percentage chance and getting a few more bites at the apple will help. Like it would show some direction at least.

I also kinda want us to give IT like twice the vet min on a make good deal and give him a guaranteed role as a backup pg. If he still has anything we are so starved for offensive creation that he could make a real difference even if he is 75% of what he once was.

We couldn't do a sign and trade because we'd have to waive him... then he isn't our free agent.

We could canvas the league right now for a deal and say we will move Favs guarantee date up (has to be mutually agreed upon, but he will agree because he clearly wants that dough)… and then move him for something like...

In a Conley deal where he goes to a third team (Washington or Charlotte)
To Charlotte for Biyombo or Zeller and their pick (they could waive and stretch Biyombo if they had Favs and alleviate some salary issues and get a better player in Favs)
Clips as outlined above by @NUMBERICA
Minny - Maybe swap Teague and Favs and swap picks this year...

It can be done. But if not... I just don't know how we can go into the season with him as trade bait on a one year deal... again.

Rozier's value depends on Donovan more than anyone else. What does he think of Rozier?

My fan opinion is that Rozier is a fantastic bulldog type we need at PG if we keep Donovan at SG. He could share PG with Exum to give us pretty damn good PG depth and defense. Rozier doesn't have to have the ball but he can attack and get streaky hot.

I would put Rozier about 7th or 8th on my list of targets, but I would love to have him if the others fall through.

It doesn't matter what Donovan thinks of him, Donovan's not the GM. Signing players because they're friends with your star player is no way to run a team.

That might make sense. What's your source?

It's wrong and his source is his butt.

Go look at San Antonio's cap sheet... you will notice Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are on there this year... weird since they are both retired.
