Epstein is in Trouble

I remember “grab them by the *****” being pretty big. But I suppose my memory fails. I guess raping 13 year olds was kosher then and I’ve just taken for granted that it’s only recently that it’s become taboo.

Perhaps not kosher, but definitely better tolerated when the 13-year-olds were hired for that purpose. In addition, at that point the Epstein case was 8 years old, and Trump was pump out new outrages every day. The media loves the new.

But heck, if you have bought into the notion that the media was trying to protect Clinton, probably reason is pointless anyhow.

"...Maybe one of the reasons rape has so often been portrayed as “a stranger leaps out of the bushes” is so we’ll imagine rapists acting alone. But in so many cases rapists have help in the moment and forever after, and the help is often so powerful, broad, and deep—well, that’s why we call it rape culture, and that’s why changing it means changing the whole culture. Sometimes it’s the family, community, church, campus looking the other way; sometimes it’s the criminal justice system. If Jeffrey Epstein goes to jail for the new round of indictments—which only came about because one investigative journalist, Julie K. Brown of the Miami Herald, did an extraordinary job of digging up what had been buried in his case—a host of people who knew, laughed, looked the other way, allegedly helped him sexually abuse children for years will still be at large, and the circumstances that allow other Epsteins to attack other children will still exist."

I think there's a difference between suppressing something and not covering something. You've seen three years now of throwing anything at Trump imaginable. Real, not real, fabricated, whatever. This stuff had legs back then. Why no coverage? IIRC, there was an active court case against Trump and Epstein around the election. Instead we're talking about how Trump may have started WWIII by accepting a phone call from the Prime Minister, or whatever, of Hong Kong.
Taiwan.

I have never heard of this phone call

Trump called the President of Taiwan shortly after his Inauguration.

Taiwan, also known as The Republic of China, is an island off the coast of China that many fled to after the communist takeover of mainland China. China (the People's Republic of China) considers this island part of greater China and intends to bring it back under their control. The U.S. in delicate negotiations with China adhered to the One China Policy, where we only officially recognized one official nation of China, the PRC. So we danced around the Taiwan (Republic of China) issue, until basically on a whim Trump called the Taiwanese President to say hi.

I'm cool with this **** if Trump is doing it with intent, and a plan, and understanding of the dozens of threads interwoven into the situation that spread all over the world and are part of many other diplomatic relationships. But Trump is a dumbass. He has proven that over and over and over. To give him info on these issues his staff has to draw pictures in crayon and put "Trump" all over them or he loses interest.

You’re being intentionally dense if you’re suggesting, essentially, “gee golly, with the Trump outrage cycle, I guess we just gosh darn missed the rape allegations when we were covering golden showers from Russian hookers, eating his fried chicken with a fork, and telling Billy Bush that you can grab women by the *****.” Hint: one of those is not like the other. Oh, right, the Epstein case is 8 years old. Billy Bush was, what, 2004?

If you want to recognize that there’s a discrepancy in coverage and that a big story seems to have gotten much less coverage than many other comparatively smaller stories, but reject my postulations as to why, or even suggest that there’s not a known reason, then that’s fine. But if you’re wanting to engage in a rationalization of why this story wasn’t bigger, or pretend that two guys raping a 13 year old was as common three years ago as two guys going bowling, then you’re engaging in the same type avoidance and protection of your cognitive biases that I’ve been seeing you criticize people here for as long as I’ve known you.

Yep. I corrected that in a later post.

He didn’t call her. He accepted a brief congratulatory phone call from her. I know people hate the “well if Obama did this” comparisons, but if he had, nobody would have said anything because they don’t perceive him as a bumbling fool who would start WWIII. And I don’t think if he had that it would matter or be news. Hell, he probably did.

I don't recall eir being any news coverage of the Billy Bush tape in 2004. There was some coverage of the Epstein trial in 2008. To my knowledge, as of 2016, no one had come forward to connect Trump specifically to Epstein's activities. Epstein palled around with pretty much everyone in Manhattan. In fact, if you were saying that the media were ignoring Epstein because of deep many of their own executives were likely involved in salacious activities, I'd say that was a fair possibility. It's when you try to tie it to favorable disposition toward Clinton that it goes off the rails.

Perhaps it's just the times I grew up in, but men preying on teenage girls was the expectation back then. It may not have happened as commonly as going bowling, but I heard men talking about it more often than I went bowling. I have thought of the MeToo movement as really shifting the needle there culturally, but maybe it only shifted my awareness of it.

I agree.
The lesson here? Don't elect bumbling fools as president and a lot of this stuff goes away.

Wow
Just finished reading this thread. My take, Epstein is trash and should go to jail. He also used his money, and access to vulnerable girls to leverage horny powerful men.

Bill Clinton is likely guilty of taking advantage of the vulnerable kids in the "Lolita Express". 26 trips Bill? He should be held accountable.

Donald Trump makes Bill Clinton look like a choir boy. He is likely guilty of raping a 13 year old among other sex crimes against vulnerable women. How many accusations now? I've lost count. He too should be held accountable.

Anyone who thinks either of these two powerful horny men are above reproach, and that the accusations against them are a conspiracy, should take off the partisan blinders and put on the blindfold of justice. We have plenty of reasons to believe they are both capable of exactly what has been claimed they did. The simplest explanation is they are indeed guilty. That is how I would apply Occam's Razor.

One difference, Bill Clinton is no longer president. He hasn't been for a long time... why does anyone act like he and his crimes matter more than the current president and his crimes?

They don’t matter more. They matter just as much from a justice standpoint. Those using it to deflect should be better. Just as the ones dismissing it as old and not important should be.

But I’m with you. Investigate fully and go after every single person that participated to any degree.

I think the death penalty is appropriate for the ones raping these kids. Life in prison with no parole for the rest.

At the very least I think it makes sense that a person who is our President should be held to high standard and that our current President fails that test and should be removed.

(Anticipating a certain response, I advocated for Clinton resigning or being impeached for lying to the American people, and I was a teenager at the time. So save your double standard retort for someone else.)

Agreed.

I haven't read a lot of this thread, but as far as outrage over the Access Hollywood tape, Wikileaks released the Democratic National Committee material right after, and I believe that story swamped the "grab 'me by the *****" tape....

Did you stop having sex with underage girls? Yes or no question.

Reported your post bro.
Im tired of your baseless accusations and defamatory commentary. Grow the up scumbag.

The discussion is about laws that are already in place. Laws = peace. Peace= good. If you cant understand that then you got the mentality of a 8 year old. Your only argument is just to go back to labeling people because you have no good arguments. Its weak bro . Grow a brain. Read some history. Learn how we got here in the first place and why its dumb to go backwards. Stop virtue signaling. Stop with your grade school arguments. Stop the name calling. Be a decent person.

You arent doing that hasnt already been tried. You are just another mob zombie repeating the same nonsense that doesnt solve anything. You are a problem creator, not solver. You are a parrot, not a tiger.

Report away, little dude I didn’t say you are a pedophile. I was just asking. And yes I was mocking your demand for “yes or no” answers to bogus questions. The moderators will see this I’m sure.

Your indignation over name calling is really hilarious.

I am glad to have struck a nerve as it usually takes an emotional event for people to understand and correct their serious problems, and grow up a bit. Good luck to you. There is always hope.

You are a bit more of a cliff bound lemming. Parrots are a bit smarter.

Anyhow, Why don’t you impress us by sharing your last insightful and original idea.

Wow us with your brilliance.
