2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

On the Dunc'd On podcast, they said they would sign Marquese Chriss if they were the Jazz. Then they kinda backpedaled a bit and said maybe not Chriss specifically, but someone who can really jump and get on top of the rim on the second unit. He was playing better near the end of his stint with the Warriors. I think the Warriors were pretty confident that he'd clear waivers and that they could just sign him to a series of 10 day contracts or whatever.

chriss is straight up ****.

**** NO

Next 5 games should tell Phoenix whether or not they are #8 seed contenders. Next 8 games absolutely will tell them... they are trending the wrong way... Baynes is playing less and less... He's also been less effective so something to watch.

So it becomes more possible he gets moved imo. I wish Ed's deal was expiring cuz I think it would make our offer more appealing.

I think Cleveland will end up buying out Thompson, but I think he goes to Boston. They have more money available than the minimum I believe and I think he may want to go somewhere he can start and that may re-sign him.

Stuff will start to shake loose soon.

One desperation scenario I have thought would be Phoenix trades for Love with Tyler Johnson, Baynes, Saric… Cleveland would need to route Baynes and Saric elsewhere as I don't see them having a lot of value in Cleveland. Neither guy is worth a first... together though maybe. So in this scenario we route a heavily protected almost "fake" first. So it is lotto protected and conveys two years after the Memphis pick does ( @NUMBERICA you can do these types of provisions in trade protections... I know you've been skeptical that we have a first to offer). There are limitations on how far out you can trade picks, so if it doesn't convey it turns into two seconds. Cleveland gets to say they got a first and expirings for Love and save face... Phoenix gets a big name that offers "hope". We get a championship(s).

Now you have bird rights on JC, Baynes, Saric, Royce... I don't see us going into the tax but you could use MLE and BAE as long as you don't go over the apron (I'm fairly certain). You could also do sign and trades with any of those guys. I'm not 100% positive that I like Saric more than Niang, but he's a guy I've liked for a long time and I think he's a guy that Quin and the development team could mold.

Side bar... Ricky Rubio played with Kevin Love and the Suns GM James Jones was on the Lebron Heat and Cavs teams. I think they are the most likely team to trade for him... if you have Love and Ayton then you are likely not retaining both of Saric and Baynes.

I've never been a big fan of the guy, but I think WCS can be had. The physical tools and athleticism have always been great... motivation and skill not necessarily. I don't think he's a locker room issue at all, but not sure he's a guy disciplined/focused enough to work with Quin.

I think Tony is doing an okay job and is playable, but I just get the impression he is lost too often... like even when Rudy was checking in the other night he seemed confused... Rudy kinda chuckled. DM and others go the other way on his screens a lot... and I see dudes talking to him constantly… sometimes calmly... other times in a more flustered fashion. That type of stuff gets magnified in the playoffs and I think we'd be silly to role with Tony headed into the post season.

He's certainly the physical profile we need.

Jeff Teague just moves to Atlanta in what looks like a cost savings move for Allen Crabbe... strange move... I guess the Wolves are done trying this year? Crabbe is usually either hurt or terrible so I can’t imagine they did it for the player.

Nah it makes sense for both sides. Wolves wanted to get rid of Teague badly because he didn't fit next to Wiggins and Hawks wanted a backup point who could run some offense while Trae taking a breaks

Teague was still efficient and the wolves have like no point guards... they should build around Towns and Teague was able to capitalize on the space he provides. Crabbe is shooting like 35% and 31% from three, is always hurt, and is an awful defender. There is something else to this one.

This is why he's playing now, to see if he can figure it out. The way this team coaches player's up I wouldn't be surprised to see things start clicking for Bradley. He already slowed his fouling down to less than three a minute.

Our team right now is overly talented in the back court, and under talented in the front court. The best way to redistribute our talent is to trade Conley because there are multiple teams looking for an upgrade at PG. Here are three packages in exchange for Conley that I most like. I expect if the front office made these offers at least one would be accepted (and we could probably get back some draft compensation as well). Each of the trades work salary wise. They are ranked in my order of preference.

1) Wolves: Gorgui Dieng, Robert Covington - Both improve defense while fitting in the spread offense (not sharp shooters, but respectable). Dieng has a bad contract, but Covington is an asset.
Conley would provide Wolves a teadying influence on and off the court. His pick-n-pop with Towns would be awesome. Should appease Towns because would show they are trying to get him some help and would have a decent shot at making the playoffs this year.
Alternate: Cap wise, we could also take back Jeff Teague.

2) Magic: Aaron Gordon, DJ Augustin - Gordon would be great to have in a matchup against either LA teams. I worry about chemistry if he wanted a bigger role than is available this year but in the long term he could excel in our system.
Great thing about this trade is it helps both teams reallocate talent to have a more balanced front/backcourt. Conley would be a good fit with Vucevic.
Alternate: Cap wise, we could also take back Aminu if we wanted for the future (he is out this year).

3) Heat: Justise Winslow, Goran Dragic - Winslow is currently injured but should be ready before the trade deadline. His shooting is down this year, but I still like him a lot. Defensively he is great, and he has a lot of skills.

Maybe an indicator of them wanting to shift their focus now from Towns to Wiggins given recent rumors of towns want out. And he's been ded according to Wolves fans. Crabbe is just an expiring that could give Wolves the cap space to build around Wiggins and possibly Towns if he ends up staying

Teague was expiring... Wiggins is not a guy you build around... Teague fits with Wiggins and Towns better than Crabbe.

There might be some draft capital in the deal that changes it... Teague may have been done with them and wanted out... or they may have a follow up deal in the works.

They need a PG? NWG for a first rounder.

I think either KAT or Wiggins is on the way out.

I've actually thought about that first one... I can't decide if RoCo is good. I'd want a first in that deal too if we did it. Conley would make a lot of sense for the Wolves. Dieng has played better in a starting role but I'm not sure he's some big upgrade as a backup... mild upgrade with a ****** contract. I could see the Wolves throwing in a first for Mike if that was the deal.
