Coronavirus

Back to the story of how stupid China is with Covid lately. My wife got Covid in USA over 20 days ago, she had symptoms for about 4 days and tested negative on the 5th day. We have done tests every other day since and never tested positive once. We got to Hong Kong and did tests every day for three days all negative and got to China for their 10 day quarantine, 7 at their facility and then we can do 3 at home if everything is okay. We did the two tests at the airport that are very strict and thorough and they came back negative. But then on the first day of quarantine she got a call... They told her it was inconclusive test and needed more info. After answering questions for 15 minutes they said she was actually positive and was going to be taken to a hospital. 5 phone calls later and a bunch of questions they are still being dumb and lying about, as usual. But we finally demanded and got the report, she is negative by international standards and by China standards, but barely. China is much more strict about the levels on the test but basically she tested the number that is very strict here of something like 35 ppm. That is the standard China considers you negative and releases you. But, they are saying now they think she is trending negative (based on nothing) so she is probably going to be taken away for 10 days or so for strict quarantine watch.
That's rough. Hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.

Does the salary, general living conditions and love from your partner (not to be underestimated component of the life based on my experience) compensate all the hassle?
I have only visited China once in 2009 (Shanghai and its surroundings like Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi and Nanjing), liked the experience and at that time i thought that i surely visit it again. Well, after what happened in Hong Kong in 2019 and now during the COVID crisis, i probably never will.

Outside of the current situation China has been a great place to live. It has a rich history obviously, the people are great, great food, beautiful places, and some of the best designed cities with good infrastructure. But the current COVID thing has become unbearable and the current regime is becoming more and more of a problem. I'm only in China right now because we sold our house and need to pick up our stuff and fish the paperwork. I won't return to China after this until they drop the 0 COVID policy, or at least go to what Hong Kong is.

well who ever would have thought this ...
There are outstanding questions you've been asked about assertions you've made on this subject.

Do you have any answers to those questions? Or are you just throwing **** against the wall?

Not wasting my breath with someone who’s admitted flat out that they don’t care about facts coming to light but merely what their preconceived narrative is. Peace brother, according to this you’d do well to make sure your Vitamin D is topped up.

LMAO

I like facts, I like facts a lot. Give me some you little ***** bitch. You coward little **** stick. Try facts one time. I know you're a scared little punk, but maybe one time get your big boy britches on and give it a test drive.

From 0-29yrs 7,981 people in the U.S. have died from covid. From 0-45 the rate of men dying to women is 1.66 (best numbers I could find in a quick search). So well over half of that 7,981 number is young men. Let's just call it a pretty safe 5,000 young men have died from COVID in the U.S..

How many young men have died from myocarditis?
How many were vaxxed / not vaxxed, at what stage of the pandemic, what pre existing serious health issues did they have, including being significantly overweight, diabetic, hypertension. Did they die with or from Covid ? how many were in their 20s compared to under 18 ??

I’m mainly throwing this up for thought in the Omicron era.

3, 2, 1. … vent away.

You seem like a hostile rather unpleasant bloke. You very clearly stated a while back that you didn’t care if the vaccine didn’t stop transmission as first claimed but that you still hated those who didn’t get it anyway on your behalf.

Yes answer that question for your own group.

I'll wait while I laugh at you.

You clearly didn't understand what I said. Not surprising.

I have no idea how many people died of myocarditis. Your turn. Although I doubt you have the wherewithal to be that nuanced. Once size fits all eh.

So .. getting onto the vitamin D ?? Very underrated it seems.

And why on earth are you always so damn angry dude. What’s happened to you in your life ??

I always thought it was a no brainer to supplement with D3. My doctor just thought “smart move”. So, from the start of the pandemic I’ve been taking D3. This did not require a study to figure out. Also got vaccinated through the latest Moderna booster. Whatever reduces my chances of Long Covid, and reducing that risk requires reducing the risk of Covid in the first place, is a part of my defense system. Don’t need brain fog. Already have chronic fatigue, don’t need to magnify it to the power of 10. Death comes to us all, eventually. Long Covid does not have to, and preserving some quality of life requires that Long Covid be kept at bay. Those two Long Covid symptoms, extreme fatigue and brain fog, are killer, in terms of flushing quality of life right down the drain. And avoiding that is the #1 reason I want to avoid Covid. Pre-existing conditions do not help in my case, and D3 will continue as part of my arsenal…

At this point, I don’t think these folks are going to be convinced by facts, policies, or science. It’s part of their identity now. Much like politics, they’re bored with regular science and want to be known as “anti-establishment.” I’ve reviewed the last several pages recently to understand why anyone would be anti vax for children given how infectious Covid is, and I’ve seen that the same folks who were anti vax months and months ago remain so no matter what the data says.

Just like politics, Identity, feelings, and the need to be entertained by not being “suckered by the establishment” > facts, evidence, and plain good policy influenced by experts and expertise.
This post remains relevant… it’s the best description of anti vaxxers and what motivates them.

I would hope people who are immunocompromised, like me, are already aware of their Vit D levels and are already on supplements.

Any preventative measure is good.

Things got crazy in China! I came back to China 2 months ago and it things were looking promising for opening up and they had new rules easing up. Then lockdowns swept across Beijing and other places. Then protests erupted that I had been worrying about for about 6 months. Rumors started floating around that China might open up or they might start massive lockdowns and send military to stop things. I think the government had a debate about it and thankfully things opened instead of the other way. It was quite stressful since we were in the midst of packing and getting ready to move. Most services got suspended and we are worried about getting stuck.

Now to the opening up part. Wow! I don't think the virus has ever spread this fast. It makes me worry variants will pop up due to the speed and lack of vaccines. I went to the bar for a goodbye party for me. Most people I knew were locked down so we had a small goodbye thing with about 18 people. Within a few days 16 of them had COVID. The only ones who didn't we're my wife and I, but that was due to us having it a month before in the USA. It's sweeping around so fast. Everyone has it within a week or two. China is so dense and almost no one has been exposed, this is unprecedented probably in history. Most people stopped testing so the numbers are not remotely accurate, not that they have ever been trusted.
