The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Curious if anyone has thoughts on Jaden Ivey? I'm thinking he is a player with decent potential to be moved between now and the deadline. He had a decent start to the season before he got injured, but I think it's notable that the Pistons did not get worse. He had major fans predraft around here, but his value to winning is questionable and his analytics are awful particularly on defense.

Scoring guards who don't defend have become the running backs of the NBA, they just don't have any value.

I like Ivey, but I wouldn't give up any real assets to get him and there is no reason for Detroit to move a guy on a rookie contract without getting any value back.

Thats not true at all. if you are undersized then it's true.

I'm seeing him tossed out as part of that logical salary match for Lauri (Tobias + Ivey), but I'd honestly put him at zero/neutral value in that kind of a deal. If you can trade Nurkic for Sexton I don't see a strong case for Ivey's value. I think there's still some perception of him that he's a defender because he's an athlete....but he is very bad and I'm not sure those habits can be fixed at this point.

These numbers are not good:

The other part of my statement that isn't exactly true is that I didn't say anything about contract size. Obviously a guy on a rookie contract is much more valuable than a guy on a contract above the MLE.

RFA's are getting destroyed right now because there is no cap space, but I think that changes next season. Rookie extensions can be a contention point and there's potential for a player to be moved before the season or at deadline if something doesn't get done and obviously there is some potential for them to leave/be moved the following year in RFA. Here is the 2022 draft class that is up for extensions.

Pretty sad. Gun to my head, I probably would've taken him ~4-6 last season and felt nauseous about it.

Just an atrocious draft.
I was a Buzelis fan. Still hoping Cody pans out, but a Buzelis, Collier and Fillipowski draft would’ve been pretty damn impressive to pull off. I liked Knecht early on, but cooled on him pretty quick. Just too old for a top 10 pick.

What happened to him? He was playing well up to the point when he was traded by the Lakers (that got rescinded).

Must have affected his confidence...
He's an older player. Played juco for two seasons, played at Northern Colorado for one and Tennessee for one. I have a feeling that the scout that said to draft him is polishing up his resume as we speak.

Lowe floated out the idea of LeBron to Miami and I kinda love it for both teams.

Riley goes all in one last time around LeBron, Bam, and Herro. Not great but anyone can win in the east.

Lakers get some picks for LeBron instead of letting him expire in a year where the West is super competitive.
