Tell Us Who Got Banned Thread Closed?

I don't want you to think I have an opinion (I don't)

I'm simply curious about all the alt hysteria around here.

Not Jason, obvi.. but I would think that generally speaking alts are made to cause havoc and troll more so than a main account. Also, the alt acct wouldn't care as much about infractions or being banned. SO if you're trying to run a family-friendly site, it's a safe position to simply say NO alts... which would be far easier than creating a sub-set of rules specific to alts.

I don't care one way or the other, but I can at least see the reasoning..

For the record, we are very forgiving or at least I think so. If anyone wants to come clean on an alt, I'm usually fine with some level of amnesty. Don't wait for us to find it. Hell, even HH is waiting in the wings and will be back at some point considering that he finally did admit some things and stop using them. Look at Dalamon. ;-)

I don't want to. You can't make me.

While this may be true, you can't fault the man for his style. I like that you're making an example of him, but why not extend that example and show that you are a merciful God, and give him one last chance. I believe he said he had a bunch of infractions falling off here pretty soon, right?

We did ban God didn't we? Or at least Jesus Christ...

He is a merciful/loving God, but most people tend to forget that he is also a "just" God...

Silly noob question.

So I understand why users get annoyed with alts, but why are they a problem for you?

Let's say you had two good quality posters that you eventually determined were the same person. How is that bad for your site?

If they were good quality, perhaps it wouldn't be bad. But once you allow it for anyone, then you open the door to things such as:

* people ganging up on other posters (i.e. one poster pretending it's three against one instead of one against one), and with other type of "sock puppet" behaviors such are outlined here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sock_puppetry
* people creating multiple accounts in order to enable themselves to accumulate extra infractions --> as actually happened here
* people creating multiple accounts in order to give rep back and forth and boost their rep

Creating alts for humorous trolling is a thing I really enjoy to watch and it's absolutely what we need in the off-season's dust and ashes, but the reasons colton stated are lame excuses to even bother to create alt accounts.

We did enjoy some of the alts that only posted pics. But can't have a grey area.

New rule proposal:

If someone has been convicted with creating and using an Alt account, ban the said Alt account and let the BOARD decide what to do with the actual account of the convicted poster.

I don't believe the banning is the only way(not the best way that's for sure) to penalize the Alt crimes. We could neg-rep the culprit(like stoning), change his name, give him a humiliating sig or avatar, shorter suspensions etcetera...

I'm calling for the mods and Jason to deliberate about this.
